The 2019-20 HFNHL season will begin tonight, September 16th, with a two week pre-season schedule.

Pre-season Plan
Start:
Monday September 16th
Finish: Monday September 30th
Sim plans: There will be 2 game days a night for the duration of the pre-season

The home page has been updated with a link for the pre-season index page. Use it, and only it, to access current rosters. Team direct links at the bottom of the home page are NOT correct at this point. For those wanting a direct link...

Index: HFNHL - index
League File: http://hfnhl.org/2020/preseason/HFNHL-PRE.stc (the home page link is down right now and will be fixed tonight)

Action items & reminders

Waivers: All players have been called up to pro rosters. Everyone is required to submit lines by end of night Thursday September 26th so players are on waivers by the end of pre-season. If you have a player aged 25+ that was just signed as a UDFA this summer they are exempt from waivers and can be submitted to SimGod for that clearance. Anyone who does not submit lines will face discipline from the Commish and will have their rosters set for them without input. The post with more details can be found here: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=2102811&highlight=waivers.

Minimum roster requirements: By the start of the regular season all teams must have 3 goalies, 8 defenseman, and 14 forwards under contract in your system.

Prospect Activations: All required prospect activations must be completed by Saturday September 28th. If any eligible prospects are found after the deadline they will be automatically created at max ELC salary and penalties may apply. Don't forget to check for Euro players returning to NA that must be activated as well.

Salary cap/floor: As a reminder, this years cap is $81.5M and floor is $60.2M.

Lines: Submit through Dropbox as usual. If you lost access or can't get in let me know. Those of you who posted lines recently will need to do so again with the new league file please and thank you.

Regular Season Plan

Pending everyone getting lines in the regular season will tentatively begin Wednesday October 2nd with the NHL.

We're only a few nights from the start of the NHL season so it's time for an update as there's still a fair amount of work needed for all teams to be ready to go...

The pre-season is scheduled to end tomorrow night but we have a few tasks that haven't been completed by everyone:
  • Line submissions & waivers: Lines needed to get your rosters down to the 23 player max for the regular season. Failure to submit your own lines will result in me sending lowest OV players down regardless of waiver status.
  • Minimum roster requirements: Some rosters don't meet the minimum requirements of 3 G, 8 D, 14 F. This might be achieved by getting compliant for the next point. Failure to get compliant will result in random players being signed to not so team friendly contracts.
  • Prospect activations: Approximately 20 teams have prospects that require signing still. This means lots of people who think they have theirs done still have work to do so we need everyone to review their prospect lists and get these signings done. Failure to complete these by the below deadline will result in prospects being signed at max ELC and a $500,000 fine. If you're still not compliant by the start of the regular season additional penalties may be applied.
  • Maximum roster requirements: Teams must be within the 50 player contract limit (including the above prospect activations) by the below deadline. Failure to be compliant will basically bring the league to a halt and penalties may be applied.
  • Ratings challenges: Reminder these are due tonight at 11:59PM EST if you plan on getting them in.
Deadline & Regular Season Plan: Your deadline to complete the above tasks is Wednesday, October 2nd. This means we're pushing the start of the regular season back to Friday, October 4th, assuming everyone is compliant. Pending the type and quantity of issues left we may be forced to push the start back more so please do your part to get things done.

Sim Engine: After talking to the ratings creator I discovered the ratings pack we've been using is optimized for an older version of the sim engine than what we've been using the last few years. There was no rhyme or reason to switching when we did, it was just the new option so we went with it. In order to get the most out of the ratings pack with more realistic results we've made the switch from 2.0 to 1.5 like we used to use. We've been using this throughout the pre-season and the settings we have will hopefully deliver some good results.
