Instant Analysis:
On defense the Coyotes are going to have a tough time filling the void being left by Oscar Klefbom. Established NHLer's such as Zadorov, Chychrun, Staal and Schultz will likely lead the way with strong depth defenders like Ruhwedel and Harrington supporting and young guns Juolevi and Siegenthaler looking to take the next step. Siegenthaler has already established himself as an upper end penalty killer, but it would be great to see him get over the 20 minute mark with added 5 on 5 action. Juolevi went from a top end prospect, to questionable if he'd ever make the NHL. He has improved immensely over the last two seasons and made his NHL debut in the playoffs. He makes his NHL debut tonight and will look to continue this progression.
Up front the Coyotes lack depth of forwards playing in the NHL. However the young forward group is already filtering in. With Lucas Raymond, Alex Newhook, Connor McMichael, Akil Thomas, Dominik Bokk one year out from making their debut's, young players such as Gurianov and Appleton have already penetrated the every day roster at the NHL level. It's clear the Coyotes offensive attack will be lead by Mika Zibanejad who has more goals per game than anyone in the NHL last year and Phil Kessel who had a bit of a down year after being a consistent upper end goal scorer in the league. They will look for players like Pavel Zacha to once again take the next step in their career.
The Taxi Squad is mixed with veteran and young talent. Perry and Schenn have a wealth of NHL exeperience. Niko Mikkola and Logan Stanley look primed to start their NHL career and will get their start on the taxi squad, but will not be surprised to see them move up to the regular roster a little down the road this season.
The Injured Non-Rostered also lists a couple young players for the Coyotes in McIsaac and Ratcliffe. Veterans MacDermid and Dal Colle will likely be on the list short term. Where as the big story this season for the Coyotes is the loss of #1 defenseman Klefbom for an entire season on that list.
