Gentlemen,
After a little bit of prodding, 24 of our 30 GMs voted in this year's All-Star balloting...not a horrible number, but could be better. What I find particularly disappointing is that some people who received All-Star votes for GM failed to submit votes themselves. Suffice it to say, the league office will be reviewing punitive measures on a case-by-case basis. At an absolute minimum, all non-voters can expect to receive a fine.
Moving on...
This year's All-Star balloting was a relatively cut-and-dried affair, particularly on the blueline. As always, there was a lot of disparity in the Coach and GM voting. Without further ado, the results...
EASTERN CONFERENCE
Center: Henrik Zetterberg, OTT
Left Wing: Alexander Ovechkin, CAR
Right Wing: Patrick Marleau, BUF
Defenseman: Nicklas Lidstrom, OTT
Defenseman: Drew Doughty, ATL
Goalie: Ryan Miller, BUF
Coach: Peter DeBoer, BUF
GM: Matt Kowalchuk, MTL
WESTERN CONFERENCE
Center: Jonathan Toews, DAL
Left Wing: Pavel Datsyuk, CGY
Right Wing: Phil Kessel, PHX
Defenseman: Mike Green, CHI
Defenseman: Duncan Keith, CHI
Goalie: Henrik Lundqvist, DET
Coach: Brent Sutter, CGY
GM: Matt Kershaw, CGY
Special congratulations to my two namesakes on winning the GM nominations! Matt and Matt - I will forward you the results of the All-Star voting, should you choose to use it as an aid in preparing the rest of your roster.
Teams will be awarded $250K for each All-Star starter - with two exceptions. Phoenix and Atlanta will NOT be awarded $250K for the nominations of Kessel and Doughty, respectively, as both GMs failed to submit All-Star ballots.
One last note: with this announcement, the "UFA Penalty" is no longer in effect. Let the trading begin...
Respectfully,
