1, Dallas Stars - Rasmus Dahlen
Not much to say here. The Stars announced to the hockey world that Dahlen would be the first pick overall, just minutes after it was announced that they won the lottery. They pick again at 11.

2, Calgary Flames - Andrei Svechnikov
There will be lots of debate here. Will they trade the pick or will they keep it? Part of the management team wants Tkachuk the other Svechnikov. The owner isn’t afraid of Russians despite being burned in the past.

3, Washington Capitals - Brady Tkachuk
Rumours are that the Capitals want Tkachuk and have been trying to move up one spot to ensure they get him.

4, Buffalo Sabres - Filip Zadina
While the Sabres are disappointed about the outcome of the lottery They waste no time getting to the podium to select the Czech sniper.

5, Minnesota Wild - Oliver Wahlstrom
There will be much debate at this pick between Wahlstrom, Hughes and Boqvist. The Wild already have some nice young talent on the back end and could really use a finisher up front.

6, New York Rangers - Quinn Hughes
The Rangers typically like to draft American born talent. The only debate here would be if Wahlstrom lasts this long. Otherwise it looks like a Werenski/Hughes tandem on the blue line for a long time to come.

7, Philadelphia Flyers - Adam Boqvist
The Flyers have Boqvist fall into their lap here at 7. Amongst all the scouts I’ve polled he’s generally considered a top 4 or 5 talent in this draft, so it’s not a huge drop to 7. They pick again at 23.

8, Carolina Hurricanes - Evan Bouchard
The Hurricanes could really use a defender and there will be much debate between Dobson and Bouchard. In the end the Canes go with Bouchard, he’s a bit closer to being a finished product and you can’t ignore the number he put up in London this year. They pick again at 14.

9, Arizona Coyotes - Jesperi Kotkaniemi
The Coyotes are a team that typically likes to draft bigger players. Kotkaniemi fits the bill of a guy with size and skill. He could use some work on his skating. He’s been a steady riser all year long.

10, Columbus Blue Jackets - Noah Dobson
The Bluejackets really need a defender and they will have to decide between Dobson and Smith at this point in the draft. You can’t really go wrong with either in my opinion but at this point that Jackets go with Dobson who’s a little bigger and has arguably a higher ceiling. They pick again somewhere between 29-31 depending on the outcome of the playoffs.

11, Dallas Stars via Red Wings - Joe Veleno
With their 2nd pick already in the draft the Stars elect to go with a center in Joe Veleno. He’s had his struggles since being granted exceptional player status for the QMJHL draft, but he’s battled through it, and managed to maintain his status as one of the top players available. Another option here is Bode Wilde whom the Stars have shown great interest in.

12, Vegas Golden Knights - Joel Farabee
It’s rumoured that the Golden Knights really covet Veleno, but he’s off the board here. So they go with a player in Farabee who will be attending Boston University next year. Vegas already has Shane Bowers, Patrick Harper and Bobo Carpenter in the system that are currently playing at BU.

13, Vancouver Canucks - Barrett Hayton
The management team in Vancouver loves to select players from the OHL, and they’ve selected at least one player from the Greyhounds in each of the last 3 drafts. They keep that streak alive here with the selection of Hayton.

14, Carolina Hurrincanes via Senators - Ty Smith
It’s their second time at the podium, and they make this selection fairly quickly. Ty Smith was and outside candidate for them with the 8th pick overall and to their surprise he’s still available at 14 and the Hurricanes have rebuilt their defence with just a couple picks.

15, Vegas Golden Knights via Jets - Vitali Kravtsov
The management team in Vegas has typically shied away from Russians at the draft. However the performance that Kravtsov put on during the KHL playoffs have made believers out of the Knights. They pick again for the 3rd time at 26.

16, Toronto Maple Leafs - Bode Wilde
The Maple Leafs go defence here. Wilde is a big right hand shoot defender that can skate like the wind. Despite having a up and down year the ceiling remains tremendously high with Wilde.

17, Anaheim Ducks via Bruins - Isac Lundestrom
The Ducks go for what feels like a safe pick. Lundestrom is a defensively responsible center that has some scoring upside. He could turn out to be a really good 2nd line center or he could be a really good 3rd line center, either way I think the Ducks get a future player here.

18, St.Louis Blues - Serron Noel
The Blues go for a home run swing here with Noel. He’s expected to be a first round pick just a little later. Noel is a big man that can really get up and down the wing. There is a ton of potential here and Blues feel he’s worth the gamble at 18.

19, New Jersey Devils - Ryan McLeod
There is new ownership in New Jersey and they’ve stated they need to build up some depth and the farm. This pick could be dealt but if not I expect the Devils to go with speedster with NHL bloodlines.

20, Los Angeles Kings - Martin Kaut
The Kings always seem to be towards the top of the HFNHL standings. Over the years it’s taken a toll on the teams farm system. With that in mind the Kings go for Kaut who has performed very well this season in both he Czech league and at the World Juniors. Not to mention over the past few years the Czechs have really been developing some nice talent.

21, Nashville Predators - Rasmus Kupari
The Predators take Kupari here who has slide down the draft a little bit here. He’s a smaller player that had a disappointing World Juniors. The Preds also consider Rasmus Sandin here but int he end go with Kupari who they feel will turn out just fine.

22, New Jersey Devils via Sharks - Dominik Bokk
The Devils are back for their second pick of the first round. Once again this is a pick that could be dealt but if not I expect to see the Devils go for the skilled Bokk here. He’s a bit of a project but the upside is high and he could be a steal.

23, Philadelphia Flyers via Lightning - Akil Thomas
The Flyers see a player in Thomas that has a very good skill set, that is able to make plays in tight areas. With some added muscle he could really take off and become a high end performer in Philly.

24, Florida Panthers - Ty Dellandrea
This is a Florida type pick, an strong all around competitor. Dellandrea had flown under the radar this year in large part because the team he plays for is horrible. If he played for one of the better junior teams I’m sure he’d be ranked quite a bit higher.

25, Anaheim Ducks - Ryan Merkley
The Ducks are always active in the trade market so I’m not sure of the likelihood that his pick even belongs to them come draft day. If it does and they have already selected Lundestrom earlier I could see the Ducks swinging for the fences here with Merkley. Former first overall pick in the OHL draft the kid has supreme skill and skate, but questions about his attitude and hockey sense have him falling.

26, Las Vegas Golden Knights via Islanders - K’Andre Miller
The Knights debate between Sandin and Miller here. In the end they go for Miller a former forward that just started playing defence a couple seasons ago. He can really skate and has size the ceiling here is high and this late in the first round worth the gamble.

27, Chicago Blackhawks - Rasmus Sandin
Not sure if this would be considered a fall for Sandin or not. I’ve seen him rated in the teens to the late first round, but he’s a consensus first rounder and the Hawks will be happy to add him here. He can really do it all, he can skate, carry the puck or make a good breakout pass. He may not be a top pairing defender in the NHL, but I think he’s really going to provide a team with a lot of value.

Our next version of the mock draft will be completed shortly after the cup finals.
