The year prior he was a beast. This season will determine which season was more of the outlier going forward, but based on his resume, I wouldn't count him out.

Based on his age, you have to consider it regression until he proves otherwise.

I can’t speak for others but the way I’m evaluating this is which guy would I take right now if I had to pick one to win me a game. It’s Malkin pretty easily from this bunch. I wouldn’t have Barkov in the top 5

Barkov stands out on this list and not in a good way

Seems like jumping the gun on a guy who hadn't finished lower than 7th in PPG the previous 6 seasons and is only a year removed from one of the best seasons of his career. If he was showing signs of regression previously, sure, but it's an outlier currently

I guess if one were to dock Malkin in the rankings because they expect him to miss games, that's one thing. But if Malkin can play 75+ games this year, I think he's a very good bet to be a Top 5 center.

Absolutely ridiculous that 2 guys who have 1 80pt season COMBINED go ahead of a guy who puts up 70+pts and PPG+ in a down year.
I mean, patrice bergeron scored more points in less games last year while being a far better defensive player.

In years past malkin would have gone number 2. So simmer down.
