still Hertl but Horvat is really close.

Horvat is better than Hertl. Plays WAY harder minutes, better offensively, better defensively, and Hertl had an inflated shooting percentage. Everyone is being fooled by his shooting percentage and elite linemates.

Funny how Pettersson’s name can’t be mentioned on this site without someone immediately mentioning his shooting percentage when players like Hertl, Point, and Draisaitl all had even higher shooting percentages.

Imagine Zibanejad playing with Gaudreau instead of Namestnikov?

Hell, imagine Horvat, Hertl, Getzlaf, or Kevin f***ing Hayes playing with Gaudreau.

Hertl and Horvat are closer than people think, it's basically a coin toss for me.

horvat is an excellent player but he isn't a distributor and 57 ESP by Hertl is what tips the balance for me.

Hertl is better offensively in both goalscoring and playmaking, and better defensively at all strengths. Hertl had almost as many even strength points as Horvat had total points.

Who exactly are these “elite” linemates Hertl had? Bandaid boys Evander Kane and Joonas Donskoi, hoo boy those are some real superstars.

Hertl obviously had a great shooting year, and in no way do I think that 20% is sustainable, but Hertl is not a goal scorer who is going to snipe shots from 20 feet out. He’s quite simply the best net-front forward in the league. He’s taking higher quality shots than your average forward. He was one of the league leaders in scoring chances and high danger scoring chances IIRC.

I personally cannot imagine preferring Horvat to Hertl as your 1C, but whatever floats your boat.

I know at the bold area you’re trying to argue for Hertl but man are you ever making my argument for me. Also your “bandaid boys” played 75 and 80 games last season, and both players are better than any regular line mate Horvat had last season.

Hertl had an on ice shooting percentage of 12.3, he doesn’t drive possession all that well (unlike Horvat), and he gets favourable matchups and zone starts (unlike Horvat who plays the hardest minutes of any forward in the NHL). Hertl is just no where near the player Horvat is. It’s really not even close. Hertl is more of a 21-24 goal 55ish point complementary player. Horvat is an all situations, play-driving, line carrying, 1C.

Please, tell me about these “elite linemates”.

Your entire post comes off completely clueless about Hertl, but the bolded in particular is hilarious.

From 2016-2019, Hertl has a significantly higher positive Corsi impact than Horvat according to Evolving Hockey’s RAPM model.

EDIT: Just saw that you were the same guy who said that Hertl has elite linemates. Yeah, you should probably stop talking about Hertl.
