Look at the 2016 roster that won the tournament...

Zachary Fucale, James Shepard, Mason Raymond, Brandon Gormley, Gregory Campbell, MA Pouliot, Mason Raymond, Nick Spaling. Those are the biggest names/best players on team Canada that won the 2016 tournament against the best teams in the SHL, KHL and other Euro leagues.

Then you have guys like Alex Marchenko who was on Russia's Olympic team yet was 2nd pair in the AHL. Generally players from over seas that have already had success struggle at the AHL level ie Pulju, Nylander this year, because of the step up in competiton.

Avtomobilist and Minsk are the best teams in the KHL now?

Might be a good idea to stop talking about stuff you clearly don't know.

Fair enough i looked at the history and it seems Russia stopped sending their best teams 4 years ago. But before that teams led by Gnat Domincelli were winning that tournament... regularly against the best Russian teams.

Regardless, the more relevant argument is looking at how hard of a jump it is for players. And how most of the best pro players in the world are playing in the NHL or trying to get in the NHL by playing in the American League.

How is that very ignorant?

The KHL is full of players (for the most part) that a) aren't good enough to be NHL or b) were in the NHL but are now old and slow. While the AHL is full of young players (mostly the best players from Euro leagues and best upcoming young NA talent meeet in the AHL.)

Look at he Spengler Cup. A bunch of old, broken down, has-Been Canadians with such studs as Mason Raymond, go and win that tournament over KHL teams pretty much every year.

For people who believe the AHL is a better gauge for NHL success, the question should be why Demko's rated significantly higher than other goalie prospects who've posted much better numbers in the same league, like Jarry.

The KHL pays higher, therefore they attract a higher caliber of player. They also have players who are too good to play in the AHL, like Kovalchuk, Voynov, Gusev, etc.

Demko posted very similar numbers to Comrie. Both also played in pretty bad AHL teams, and are almost the same age. Will be interesting to see whereComrie gets placed if Demko is 3rd.

There are certainly merits to that argument but Jarry played on a vastly superior team.

I agree. The best players are in the KHL, Dadonov, Shipachev last year, Athanasiou if he goes . But in terms of teams, outside of the stud teams (ie SKA St. Petersburg), I think the overall talent in the AHL is superior.

But yeah hard to argue against Shest other than the fact SKA is stacked usually. And that KHL #s are pretty high generally.

I disagree, just last year in the CHL McNiven was voted best goaltender of the year .

McNiven>Parsons IMO.

But Parsons has a WJC gold medal, plus a memorial cup. Plus put up similar numbers to McNiven last year but played less games. and better numbers in the playoffs. Parsons>McNiven easily
