So we have game of the year votes from 2011 to 2017 but none from before, so why not do it now?

Slightly different rules since we're talking about old games. Votes can be changed, so if you hear a case or debate it out maybe you'll come out on the other side and you can change it.

Previous years:
2017 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 31%
2016 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - 20%
2015 - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - 35%
2014 - South Park: The Stick of Truth - 15%
2013 - The Last of Us - 29%
2012 - The Walking Dead - 20%
2011 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - 48%
Retro Votes:
2010 - Red Dead Redemption - 31.6%
2009 - Assassin's Creed II - 20%
2008 - Fallout 3 - 43.5%
2007 - Mass Effect - 25%
2006 - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - 22.8%

This is a tough one.

Resident Evil 4 or Shadow of the Colossus...

Going with RE4.

Resident Evil 4 for me. Not only was it a great game it laid the foundations for all 3rd person shooters after it. I still remember watching Greg Kasvin's review on Gamespot and going to the store it pick it up right after. No regrets. I think I probably played through that entire game like 4 or 5 times.

Another thing about RE4 is that it IMO was also one of the scariest games to ever come out, for me.

I know a lot of people don't really look to this game when they're naming some of the scariest games ever but for me, no other game pushed my anxiety like RE4.

Getting cornered by a mob of people or worse, a chainsaw wielding maniacs had me always on the edge of my seat if I didn't have a shotgun or another power weapon.

Eventually you learn little exploits like a shot to the knee followed by a crowd clearing round-house kick, but before those tactics I used to be a wreck in some areas haha.

Oh, and this guy...

I voted RE4 although I've never played Shadow of the Colossus. Bought the PS4 remaster just haven't got around to putting it in. I think I bought a Gamecube just for RE4.

I played F.E.A.R. and really enjoyed it. But it wasn't included in the list which is a shame. Call of Duty 2 was not particularly fun. It was all right but. . . meh. Shadow of the Colossus is interesting from the lets play I've seen of that game. Gave it my vote there even though I never played the game.

Narrow edge to God of War over Resident Evil 4 for me.

And to be honest, Resident Evil 4 wasn't scary at all to me for some reason. That is until the credits. Those were legitimately terrifying.

Guitar Hero is the only game that really stood out to me in 05. There’s a ton of mediocre, yet enjoyable, games, but nothing that really grabs me

BF2 was my top FPS of all time. I haven't played a game since that integrated FPS with vehicle combat so well. Easily gets my vote.

I really hope Guitar Hero wins. I remember playing it back during the christmas of 05 and absolutely drooling over the game. I had not felt that obsessive way over a game since FFVII back in 1997. Still play Guitar Hero and Rock Band to this day :)

Out of this list (because my personal favorite and cult classic game Condemned: Criminal Origins didn't make the cut) it was between Jade Empire, SW:BFII and RE4.

I loved RE4. It was "weird" to play and RE game without a static camera and at the time the game felt super smooth (controls are wonky by todays standards). However to me it was a great experience that was worth playing once. I know it had some end-game stuff but to me there wasn't any reason to go back.

Jade Empire. WOW! Fantastic game and a game that would do very well with a re-master I think. Back in its time it was sort of a hidden gem to me and my group of friends. So fun to play though.

What made me vote SW:BFII was it's replay-ability. It was so expansive and done so well and really had that SW feel. Every year when it goes on sale on steam it will ususally crack the top 20 of game sales for the week on PC so you get a nice boost of people to play with... even today.

I only recently played Jade Empire, but it was a very good game despite some very clunky physics. I would've loved it back when it came out.

But the spear guys....ooooh....the spear guys! :madfire:

Lots of fun hours into Battlefield 2 means it gets my vote, despite that terrible rolling headshot glitch.
