HF GM Games Fantasy Mock Draft #3

A new version of our mock drafts with some twists on the rules.

Salary Cap
  • 55M (floor) - 70M (ceiling)
Trades
  • Limited
  • Two trades total per team
  • A one-day trading period will occur following the conclusion of the draft (e.g., last pick is Saturday, trading period is Sunday, voting begins Monday)
Contracts
  • 2019-2020 cap hits will be used, excluding bonuses (i.e., use what you see on CapFriendly)
  • Players must have an active contract and have played at least one game in the last two seasons
Goal
  • To win the Stanley Cup this year
  • There will be secondary awards for "Best Future" (team with the best future) and "Best Drafting GM" (the GM you think drafted the best value overall)
Restrictions
  • GMs can self-impose restrictions if they so choose (examples include NCAA alumni only, Swedish only, 25 and under only, and more)
  • Any GM who takes on a reasonable (as determined by consensus and LT) restriction will be given an extra $5M ($75M total) in cap space to work with. The cap floor will not apply to any GM who takes on a restriction.
  • If the restriction is broken at the conclusion of the trading period, that GM will lose $15M in cap space ($60M total) and be disqualified from secondary awards
Playoff Format
  • Once all teams are filled but before the draft begins, the full playoff bracket will be posted
  • All 32 teams will make the playoffs with randomly assigned first round opponents
  • GMs will vote on each matchup to determine who will advance (vote for who you think would win each matchup, not who you think is the best - this provides more nuance to building a quality team)
  • The secondary awards will be voted on separately
  • At the conclusion of the draft, GMs will send in their top 5 teams for each secondary award
  • These will be tallied by the commissioner (who is ineligible to win either award) and a winner for each will be determined
Drafting/Time Limits
  • The draft will last 20 rounds; Each GM will select 12 forwards, 6 defenders, and 2 goaltenders
  • Clock will run from 10:00 AM EST to 12:00 AM EST (except for first day)
  • We will have a 2 hour clock for Rounds 1-3
  • The clock will be shortened to 1 hour for Rounds 4-14
  • The clock will be shortened to 30 minutes for Rounds 15-20
  • Missed picks will result in auto-skips until all missed picks are made up
  • Any GM who misses 3 picks will have their clock for all remaining picks cut in half
  • Any GM who misses 5 picks will have all future picks auto-skipped
  • Any GM who misses 10 picks will automatically forfeit their first round playoff matchup and be disqualified from secondary awards
Other Notes
  • Going over the cap or not reaching the cap floor will result in an automatic first round loss and a disqualification from secondary awards
  • You must keep track of your own cap situation and keep this updated in the Roster thread; failure to do so may result in penalties and cap audits
To join, PLEASE READ ALL RULES and PM me the top 3 teams you would like to have.

The PandaRankings are now weighted by player values as sorted by PandaScores. Your top three forwards in PandaScores get a weight of 4, your next three 3, your next three 2, and your last three 1. Your top two defencemen get a weight of 4, your next two 3, and your last two 2.

P.S. I seriously did not expect Pittsburgh to jump into 1st the way that it did, but I guess that's the benefit of my top forwards being McDavid, Guentzel and Tatar. I even lessened the weight of Weighted PandaScores Avg in the final rankings calculations.

Critically, though, I am also behind two picks, which will drag things down.

I like both of my teams more than I thought I would after the first 5 rounds. Seemed like my picks were always coming in the evening while I was out and didn't put as much thought into them as I normally would. Definitely would've taken a different direction with Ottawa had I known about this mystery 4-way deal involving New Jersey before the 10th round.

Kings definitely seem like the favorites though. Pitty still looks good, although I'm not as big on them as I was early on. Feel like people are sleeping on Minnesota a bit. Arizona is very well rounded as well considering the restriction.

Looking forward to seeing how the matchup format plays out.

My Panda Ranking may be bad, but at least my team is ELITE at Loose Puck Recoveries...that is all that matters

Also my cap situation is dire now.

If pretty much any of my intended targets get taken, I will not be able to afford Looch :help:

Sick 3rd. Someone respects the Leafs.

I thought Stephenson would fall thats annoying.

I had @Peter Griffin's list sorry I was asleep, who has @NeoCanuck's, is it @LatvianTwist

This is a good team but I don't see why its the clear favourite. I feel like this is the Crosby effect.

Pat Maroon (900k) - Sidney Crosby (8.70m) - Brendan Gallagher (3.75m)
Jesper Bratt (749k) - Mikael Backlund (5.35m) - Jakub Voracek (8.25m)
Brandon Saad (6.00m) - Jordan Staal (6.00m) - XXXXXXXX
Brandon Tanev (3.50m) - XXXXXXXX - XXXXXXXX

Thomas Chabot (863k) - Jeff Petry (5.50m)
Brendan Dillon (3.27m) - XXXXXXX
Jake McCabe (2.85m) - XXXXXXX

Darcy Kuemper (1.85m)
XXXXXXX

They have 1 RD, their LWs are good but not spectacular, Cs are good but not spectacular past Crosby, RWs are very good I will say that, but they need 2 more and the pickings are getting slim. Its among my top teams, but its not my clear favourite. I definitely prefer: New Jersey, Toronto, Ottawa, Detroit, Columbus, Winnipeg.

Also why do 2 teams have Nick Suzuki? Tryamkin and Joey's teams.
