He's elite in like a quarter of the games he plays. The other three quarters he looks like he doesn't give a shit. To be honest he's probably tired of being on a trash team with trash D partners.
So yes I still view him as elite (when put in the right situation)
but how come other great players still play well on shit teams?

If I were Doughty I wouldn’t give a shit either. He’s won everything there is to win. He makes 10M a year. The team around him is total garbage.

a guy carrying a garbage team to the playoffs is the definition of what the hart trophy is about.

when pettersson and hughes are off the ice the canucks are the worst team in the NHL.
Kucherov just won the f***ing trophy last year on a team that set regular season records..

What are you talking about

“mess” it’s really not such a hard concept to follow. we made a trade that will be announced at the end of the draft.

yeah because the hart trophy is a cop out at this point to flash players with points, but look at what the definition of the trophy is.

you mean the motivated ones without two cup rings?

unfortunately being lazy/unmotivated still doesn't mean you weren't crap
I mean he still tries against the Canadian teams for some reason, maybe someone can use that small sample size and put this argument to bed.

Not excusing his play. He should be putting in 100% effort in every game but he probably doesn't see the point considering he's making bank and has won everything there is to win.
But if you watch a motivated Doughty (versus Calgary for example as he hates Tkachuk lol) you see the elite dman that he is.

Okay question for you guys, lets forget cap hits, who is better THIS SEASON at hockey, lets say we put them in the same situations:
Erik Karlsson or Drew Doughty

Assuming health it's EK for sure. But in real life his health scares me.

Probably Karlsson....

...but Karlsson also looks a little broken.

A thing people don't realize with Doughty is he had a LOT of miles on him, he was for me the undisputed No.1 D in the league for a few years (you could maybe argue Karlsson at times, maybe even Keith) and LA absolutely ran him into the ground with usage and he excelled in it for years and years.

When you get all situations at 26 mins a game for a decade, you'll eventually wear down, and it'll take some time for people to notice.
