Earlier I proposed these rules plus a waiver system. In retrospect the waiver system would add a layer of complexity to the game for players which is really not what this pool is about, and also add a shitload of time for me to manage. Given I am managing my parents health care right now I simply do not have the extra time to spend so I am removing the waiver system from next seasons rule changes.
Here is what I am proposing! Also feel free to make suggestions to rules, remembering that the point of this pool is fun, easy and not to be complicated. I wont change the basic premise where the top 13F, 7D and 2G count towards points as that is how the tracking system work. Those 20 players are your "roster" players just like an NHL roster and the others are your reserves, prospects and "minor league players".
Proposed New Rules for 2020-21
- Roster increase which should encourage more trading amongst GMs
- More teams in the playoffs keeping more GMs invested in the pool longer
- Bottom 6 teams draft order is completely determined by draft lottery, investing those GMs longer as well
Details:
Rosters
- Increase maximum from 30 to 34 players at any time including the off season.
- Minimums change from 13F, 7D, 2G to 14F, 8D, 3G
- Maximum number of goalies changes from 3 to 5
- Roster minimum is 25 players total, except for the off season.
Playoffs
- 16 teams make the playoffs instead of 12.
- All players points count towards the point total same as before.
Draft Lottery and Draft Format
- Draft lottery will be between the bottom 6 teams that do not make the playoffs.
- All bottom 6 lottery teams draft position will be determined by lottery.
- For the remaining teams, the Draft order will be in the same order of playoff finish with the exception of the top team in the regular season.
- The team wins the regular season always drafts last.
- The team that wins the “Stanley Cup” of HFOil in the playoffs always drafts second last overall no matter where they finish in the regular season.
- If it is the same team that wins the regular season and the playoffs the team picks last overall.
