Seeing how we have several days till the next game I have been thinking of ways to make the pool more competitive and interactive among GMs. It adds a bit of complexity but still easy to follow and does not require daily maintenance.

Here is what I want to do to start next season:

Proposed New Rules for 2020-21

Rosters

1. Increase maximum from 30 to 34 players.
2. Minimums change from 13F, 7D, 2G to 14F, 8D, 3G
3. Maximum number of goalies changes from 3 to 4
4. Can have no fewer than 25 players total.

Declaring Active Roster Players

1. Each team must declare 12F, 6D, 2G on your “Active Roster” the day before the season starts
2. Can change “Active Roster” players at any time up until trade deadline
3. Active Roster players will be noted as such on your team roster in the Roster page

Waivers

Seeing how we have several days till the next game I have been thinking of ways to make the pool more competitive and interactive among GMs. It adds a bit of complexity but still easy to follow and does not require daily maintenance.

Here is what I want to do to start next season:

Proposed New Rules for 2020-21

Rosters

1. Increase maximum from 30 to 34 players.
2. Minimums change from 13F, 7D, 2G to 14F, 8D, 3G
3. Maximum number of goalies changes from 3 to 4
4. Can have no fewer than 25 players total.

Declaring Active Roster Players

1. Each team must declare 12F, 6D, 2G on your “Active Roster” the day before the season starts
2. Can change “Active Roster” players at any time up until trade deadline
3. Active Roster players will be noted as such on your team roster in the Roster page

Don’t forget that the active roster is not who counts for points but who is waived and who is not waived. Injuries tend to even out across the board. I did some trial on this and in reality not many players would move I don’t think.

Also a player can be traded remember. For example let’s say Boston has a player who they think will be picked up on waivers so they probably would trade him in the preseason before the player gets waived.

I could add that injured players cannot be picked up on waivers. The hockeydb site shows who is all injured so that makes it easy.

The key is to remember the computer automatically tallies the top 12F/6D/2G on your roster regardless who is “active”. You stating your “active” roster is like an NHL teams playing roster and your other players are in the minors. So injured players and ELC players are waiver exempt and the rest can be picked up.

As for goalies again the purpose of the waivers is to even talent out and it prevents goalie hoarding so if you have 3 starters you will lose 1 for sure and that’s sort of how it should work. So a team should strive for 2 starters a backup who probably wouldn’t be claimed on waivers for depth and a young developing goalie who is waiver ineligible.
