Has the attendance been as low as it was yesterday for the previous home games, because is was a complete joke and pretty embarrassing.

Yup.
A large portion of the fanbase is pissed off at Melnyk for his role in Alfredsson's departure, rumours about a budget handicapping the team's competitiveness, and Melnyk using the team's finances as leverage to force the city into giving him a Casino.
On top of that, the team's been struggling heavily this season.
On top of that, a lot of tickets last year were sold at discounts or were given away. This year, the organization is trying to cut down on those discounts and giveaways.

I've been buying season tickets since day 1 & I have yet to recieve any kind of discount. They have in past yrs given out different things for season ticket holders, we got a free throw back jersey one yr or a tee shirt & last game we got a couple of nice scarfs but that's about it. Where are these discounts & give away tickets & how do you get them?

I'm not referring to general public giveaways, necessarily.
They often give tickets away to charitable groups, or to various employers in town (ex. the military is usually given a couple tickets per game, and a lot of tickets for military appreciation games).
The discounts are games like the Metro Family Night, Subway Discount Nights (which used to be discounted seats plus a sub, but are now just a free sub), etc.
Melnyk is learning the hard way. This team could have easily added 2 more ''big'' pieces this year to be a real contender (and IMO would have avoided the problems we are facing right now). Instead we chose not to spend.
It's no secret that the Ottawa crowd responds to the on-ice performance. I'm expecting even worse numbers for the dallas game.

I'm going to that Dallas game tomorrow, my record is zero & three so far.
I'll be there as well.
Got seats in the 100 level (5TH ROW FROM THE ICE) for 60 bucks. Absolutely crazy.

dope. ill be there too. paid $58 for level 200. my first Sens game... if its empty like you guys say, would my friend and I be able to move a couple of seats down without getting checked?
putting $200 on Dallas and Gonchar to have more points than Erik...
