To be honest I had no idea he was a free agent. He is a solid bottom pairing guy and a passable 3/4. Edmonton is dressing their assistant equipment manager and a lawn chair as their 5/6 right now, why on earth didn't they at least give him a PTO?

All I know is if another D-Man goes down for a extended period of time, the Blues are in deep trouble with this asinine signing of Cola, who I hear sprained his neck signing the contract :sarcasm:

How is signing an NHL defenseman, who has over 370 games experience, over 140 pts, and one who has played significant time in our system, an asinine signing? I know people love to make fun of Cola but acting like he is some scrub that doesn't belong in the NHL could not be a bigger stretch of the truth. The idea of having our 7th dman as some AHL player who has barely any NHL experience is asinine. If you can't see the purpose of this signing than this argument is completely useless.

It's not asanine at all. In fact it makes a lot of sense. He's familiar with the system and knows what to expect. That goes for the coaches too. He's well liked in the room and if he's healthy, he's more than capable of handling third pairing minutes. It's like people forget that he actually was a decent player who was used in a role he wasn't suited for. That wasn't his fault. Plus is for league minimum. This is basically the definition of low-risk. I hate to break it to you, but if another defenseman goes down long term, we are in deep trouble no matter who we signed. Plus, who exactly is out there that would be willing to take a league minimum contract and sit in the press box?

Judging by Ian Cole carrying the puck through the neutral zone and then firing it into the Blues' coaches corner I take it he is not a fan of the recent addition. Anyone else catch that last night?? I started cracking up when he did it.

All joking aside, this is a very shrewd move on Armstrong's part. As little as I like Colaiacovo as a defenseman, I think this is a very good signing.

Yup I'll take a Colaiacovo dodging sniper shots from the rafters three times a night over Chorney or rushing any of the prospects in the AHL.

Man, I laughed so hard at this thread. That GIF never gets old. :naughty:

Cola is a great depth pickup at this point though. Glad Cole finally gets a great chance now.
