Could this signal an eventual orderly transition from Lavi to Carbery? Hmm....
The only question is whether or not they’ll want to go with another rookie coach. Still a few years away so a lot could happen but Carberry seems to be on a solid trajectory.
Damned good news, IMHO.
figure the rebuild starts in about 5 years, Lavi probably only has a 3 year shelf life unless we get lucky.
Great news on the coaching extensions. have a lot of progressable talent in Hershey right now so having consistency in coaches is important. I think that is the driver here and not replacement of Lavi as I think that is a ways away. But does give a contingency plan.
Yeah, Gersich had a shot a couple of years ago. He’ll have to work hard to get back in that conversation with the other talent we have and lack of roster spots in Washington available.
To me Leason is looking better but he is a good 2 years away.
Also, AA and Fever looking real good in their reunion.
Lavi has a fairly well documented shelf life. Spencer seems like he’s going to be an NHL head coach. Here or somewhere else. I’m not predicting some early ousting of Lavi, but maybe an eventual successor.
I agree with shelf life. I’m just saying there extensions are likely more based on consistency in Hershey (but with a potential contingency plans if things go to sh*t with Lavi).
the extension is because they’re locking up a great AHL coach and his staff, nothing more. I’m reading tea leaves beyond that.
Carbery is 100% the next coach of the Capitals after the inevitable Lavy flame out in year three or four.
Late GWG by Alexeyev.
Feisty game. Couple of fracas’s. AA with goal and assist (2nd star). Fucale first star. Thought McMichael looked good again. he is clearly best on the ice. Had an assist. I’d love to see him in WAS next year. I think it will likely come down to whether or not we resign Raffl which i could see happening.
Gersich has worked his way back into the conversation, although it could be somewhere besides Washington. He continues to have the speed and quickness, but he has become a much smarter player and now plays a 200 ft game. He has the right attitude and approach to the game.
Malenstyn most likely has a great opportunity to make the Caps next year, as he was being considered strongly for a spot this year until his injury. Hopefully he comes back strong. He brings physical play, speed, great hockey sense, and has some touch with the puck.
I agree that Leason has looked better and that he has a long way to go. But it's great to see improvement in his pro game. He made a nice play today that you would want from a power forward holding off the defenseman and protecting the puck to make the pass.
AA looks good and one can see his improved skating as that was an area that was to be worked on. His movement is much better, and he has that blistering shot. The potential is there to be a solid NHL defenseman. It will be fun to watch AA & Fever and see who becomes an NHL regular first.
McMichael is improving each week. The hockey smarts and talent is there. He's been working on the 200 ft game and becoming a more explosive skater and recognizing the need to be more engaged with the pro game.
The Caps are in good shape with some young talent and also some top tier tweeners that can fill in when needed, allowing them to move draft picks for other assets.
I can see a moment about 2 years down the road where CMM, AA and Fever are already effective and 8 & 19 arent useless yet, and younger guys carrying the team already. GMBM is gonna aim for that anyway just because these guys I mentioned should be cheap for a while.
Hershey talent is better but we still lack scorers. Hopefully CMM and Hendrix can solve for that. Need to restock their defensive pond which has been great.
Looks like Fehervary might have gotten banged up last game. Clark misses his 4th or 5th straight. Pinho misses his 2nd straight game.
Is the Binghamton camera crew drunk?
Moulson with the brace…
Is Fever hurt?
nice shootout win. AJF ices it.
They are really, really bad. Thank god I couldn’t catch the third due to another obligation because I was at my breaking point
I do have to give some sympathy though, as the Binghamton Devils will cease to exist come next season I believe. New Jersey is looking to move to another city, most likely Utica who will have a spot open once Vancouver moves their AHL affiliate a lot closer to them. Binghamton is also super short staffed currently as I have a HS buddy who was working for them as a marketing manager and the majority of their staff was let go due to covid and now the relocation.
if only there was a way to save the team...
Wow that sucks!
Absolutely ridiculous. The North Division that Hershey plays in will not have playoffs and I guarantee it’s because certain teams couldn’t get their shit together throughout the year (Binghamton, Lehigh Valley). Hershey again robbed at a legit shot at the Calder Cup and the prospects robbed of valuable playoff experience.
So lame….almost like it’s a minor league organization lol….
