Yeah if there ever was a guy that deserved a cup, it's him. But the point you made about having never played a game while eliminated from playoff contention is a big one. He's never had to face this situation in his time here. It'll be an interesting story line as the rebuild unfolds.

Im sure you can dig up a ton of similar quotes from Ray Bourque years before he went to Colorado.

Well Bourque missed the playoffs once in his entire tenure with the Bruins. They were heading for another bad season in 99-00 when they traded him, but it's not like he had to live through a number of basement teams. Probably a bit of a different situation.

The goaltending has been inconsistent, but the team is significantly worse in general.

The goaltending being inconsistent the last few weeks is a direct result of this stubborn incompetent coach and the pile of injuries the team has suffered. Calling out his MVP and the only player on his team that gives a damn in a season that is arguably one of that said MVPs best is classless and reeks of desperation.

AV knows he is toast.

Lundqvist was cold early this season.

Yes, inconsistent defense with guys who don`t peform like B. Smith, Kevin S. has been injured majority of the season, Ryan Mc. been awful at times and struggle with minor injuries, Skjei not a great season by his standard, expected more. Holden & Staal the most positives of our D core, because they at least perform better than I expected before season started.

But Staal is Staal still, and our lineup with mostly AHLèrs majority of the season after christmas, and after a slow start it make sense why we struggling.

Mika was ppg before injury, Kreider was injured, Buch, Vesey first time concussion injuries... list is long, Pavelec recently..

I hope Zucc get moved so we all can see he will be a much different player with a sniper on his line - unless Gorton wait with him to test out chemistry with them end of this season.
If Zucc have chemistry with either Chytil or Lias they might consider to have him for next season.

It’s all those things too.

Quotes are short, and you guys would read too much into anything.

I assume you mean all three separate quotes where AV blamed bad streaks on inconsistent goaltending?

Hank has had a couple rough patches this season, but the team has been bad ALL season. That's the issue. He can't blame Hank because he isn't able to carry a terrible defense/defensive system (whatever you prefer to blame) for an entire year.

No.

I meant newspapers sell to their audience , and the quotes used can sway from the full context of an argument , and when the paper know the myopic audience is convinced this injured shit pile could be savlavaged by a coach swap.

Pretty much par for the course in journalism.

For example, prior to all these injuries, the Rangers did ride the change in goaltending momentum.

Now there is a new issue with all the injuries.

You clearly havent read the entire exchange that took place. The piece even stated that AV was very emotional when making those comments. The man is desperate.

Not to mention NYR has consistently been one of the absolute worst defensive teams in the league - and one of the worst possession teams. So they usually don't have the puck, don't tire their opponents out and give up grade A chances right in the slot to such an extent, it almost looks like it's a tactical decision to do so.

So the roster is weak. A competent coach would change the style into a much more conservative system when the team is bleeding and try to grind out some wins by keeping the score close. Not AV, he will continue with his gung-ho style until he is fired. That many fans on this board think this is one of the best seasons Lundqvist has had, despite his stats, says alot.

It's a weak team when they get the first goal, because they stop counterattacking for some reason. It's also a weak team when the other team gets the first goal, which most teams are, but when you rely so heavily on counterattacking, you have a mountain to climb to get back into the game. What usually happens when the team allows the first goal is, they allow two more, because it becomes a sporadic circus on the ice.

AV's statement is laughable. They should've asked AV which goaltender in the world who would not experience rough streaks when facing the pressure playing goalie in this system. Heck, basically every player has rough streaks on good teams during a season, except for pure anomaly seasons.

Of all players on the team to single out, he complains about the goaltending. ROFL. I guess consistently bad is better in Vigneault's book than not being very good to downright excellent all the time.
