I wonder if there's any channel in true 1080p with Videotron, Bell or Rogers now ? I guess that most of them are in 720p, some are 1080i.

Is NHL Network on PS3, Apple TV or other media device 1080p ?

When do you think that we will have all TV channels in 1080p?

1080p requires at minimum 6-8mbps (that's megabits). They probably don't want to flood the coax cable with extra bandwidth requirement.

NHL network on PS/Xbox/PC if not mistaken is 720p.

HD exists for more than 7 years now, and 4K is coming. Somehow, we still watch 720p on TV ?!? Moreover, there are still a lot of SD channels....at least for Videotron.

WTH !?!?

It's slowly coming with analog cable being phased out. Those SD channels are next. Fact remains, there's still a lot of SD customers.

I thought NHL-N was terrible?

It is, last I saw/heard. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'd subscribe if it was in HD. I just think it's crazy that a sport that benefits from HD as much as hockey does doesn't even have their own channel available in HD (in Canada).

The only 1080p on videotron is the discovery channel, but it's like 7$ a month or something

Any news that 1080p is coming on cables ?
While I agree that on small TV, there's not a huge difference between 720 and 1080, but on 80" TV or on 120" srceen projector, there may be a noticeable difference.

4K isnt coming. Most cable companies are going to switched digital in order to better use the bandwith they push, having all those channels be in 4K chokes everything to a standstill.

4K will get here ( I have an elcheepo seiki 4k tv) but 4K broadcasts are a REALLY REALLY long way away. I have the ability to push 4k content at 30 and is no better than 1080p at 60 on a 50 inch led tv.

To the best of my knoweldge, we still lack the ability to push 4K from devices on fixed media ( I only know of the sony player preloaded with sony movies and which costs 700 bucks) so waiting for your cable company to cath up you might want to take a seat.

Bell has started to produce 1080P on certain programs. They're video-on-demand movies are mostly 1080P as well.

Made the switch from Videotron to Bell when I moved last summer and I'll never go back!

Looking forward to 4k streaming of games, and my bandwidth bill.

Pull up a chair, it's going to be a while.

How long has blu-ray been around? How many cable companies push 1080 progressive? Now look at the fact that the source for 4k on physical disks is meager at best. You are looking at display port right now ( most current HDMI is limited to 4k at 30 fps). How many people have a tv or projector with a DP input?

We will likely eventually get to 4k, but it ain't happening anytime soon.
