Best solution in any case would be to simply base the team itself in some Russian/Kazakh city, there is relatively no downside to that. Yes it would be further from home for Chinese personnel but that team won't have any.

Was suspicious when he came in as a "consultant". Not impressed. Yurzinov Jr did a decent job of putting together a ragtag team and taking it to the playoffs ... and this is the thanks he gets. Sorry to see Jr go.

Any news on whether the govenment will help out? The owners were very vocal during a recent interview that Kunlun is for all Chinese hockey and its expensive!

Kunlun is indeed going to have teams in the VHL and MHL starting from next season. The VHL club will be called Kunlun Red Star Capitals and the MHL club will be called Kunlun Red Star Juniors. Both teams will play in Beijing.

All regular season games will take place in Shanghai, because the team does not rent Le Sports in Beijing anymore & another arena in Beijing is under reconstruction. When it is done, it will be Kunlun´s home for 18/19.
