Have we seen Martin St. Louis' final NHL game?

I dunno. This guy seems like the Jagr type who keeps in great shape. I see a few more yrs in him still.

Whats the reason for staying in NY area though? Family there? I'm just genuinely curious cuz as a Pens fan, i'd take him on a 1yr deal, easily.

Marty was the top right-winger on the League's #1 team this season and won the scoring title two years ago. It's probably a little premature to be throwing him out with the garbage.

If he wants to retire, that's fine. But if I'm the offense-starved Rangers, I wouldn't be trying to ditch him.

The Edmonton Oilers should launch an all out effort to sign him. Imagine his still relevant skill set and presence playing with those kids.might keep playing elite hockey till 45.

He is starting to slow down, But hes still got 1 or 2 more seasons left, If i were him id be saying "Had an off year, Ill do better next year, I had a good reg season"

He ended up with 20 goals but i believe he managed a 17 game POINTLESS streak in there. Thats a major red flag for me. He's done

St. Louis, he of one goal during these playoffs, was part of why the Rangers were "offense-starved."

The problem with going back to NYR is more the cap than anything else. The Rangers will likely have to pick between Hagelin and MSL.. at least (and possibly neither). Unless he takes a massive (~1M) paycut, I don't see how its feasible.

I also wouldn't call the Rangers offensively starved considering they were #3 in the league in GF. They just dried up in the playoffs (not that MSL helped otherwise).

Not sure he will want to go out like this.

Not sure a contender will want him. KHL would welcome him with open arms.

Some of you guys are overreacting. ^^^This for example. If the price was right, he could still play on lower lines, or on other teams.

Hopefully, I would like to be rooting for Lundqvist or Ovie to get a cup if the Wings are out... Cannot do that while MSL plays on the same team.

MSL has a great career either way, just cannot stand what he did to Tampa and the way that happened and I will not root for the guy anymore.

Yea sore loser 101. I understand being snubbed twice for the olympic team really sucks but he has to understand that Yzerman isn't the only one making decisions. Theres Nicholson (at that time), Armstrong and a fe other GMs who also help make the team. Without the Bolts giving him a chance he would've been a bottom 6 player for life or maybe even out of the NHL. He was one of my favourite players before the trade last year.

St. Louis reminds me of Mark Wahlberg in Pain and Gain.

Thinks he deserves the best. Thinks he is the best. Tired of getting "snubbed" and getting the short end of the stick.

But in reality, he just doesn't deserve it.

If he really wants to play, and removes his near-Connecticut condition, I have no doubt in my mind he'll get a contract offer. Even if the point production isn't there, he offers experience and mentorship that not many players can offer. People need to understand how much he helped Johnson and Palat during their rookie years.

I think Buffalo is a perfect fit for him.

They did have a decent RS for offense (nothing to write home about, though), but their problem every spring is that they can't score enough. Nash didn't really help since he doesn't turn up for the playoffs. I mean, they were eliminated because they couldn't manage to score 1 goal on home ice in game 7.

They have the best goalie in the last 12 years, but there's not much Henrik can do when the team can't score one goal. Is removing St. Louis going to help?

The smart thing to do here is for St.Louis to take a small pay-cut and for the Rangers to honor that by letting him be a PP-specialist and possibly reducing his ice-time a bit.

But million-dollar athletes and pro-teams rarely do the smart thing.

These days there's not much room on a roster for a strictly PP specialist. That's a thing of the past

A small paycut wouldn't do it. His cap hit is 5.625M with 5M in salary.

He's going to have to absolutely take less than 2M and probably closer to 1M to make things work. We're talking about a 70% reduction in salary.

I think he only continues if NYI or NJ (maybe PHI?) wants him and he feels they can make the playoffs. I can't believe the Rangers would want him back at this point, but if they do then I guess they are still top of his list unless money is a factor.
