USA dominated basketball for quite awhile and they wouldn't have any competition in football.

Of course, there is a zillion "sports" that is only played in one or just a few countries.

Maybe if you would narrow it down to "Olympics sports" we get more close to a valid argument.

USA doesn't have any competition in basketball. Europe is trying really, really hard. It's cute, but it will never happen.

Actually, I'd wager the US dominates in basketball more than Canada has ever dominated in hockey. And most of their best stars never even play in international competition.

Finland is pretty epic in its own version of baseball called pesäpallo. Which can again be translated into baseball.

Team USA doesnt always win. They seem to have problems sometimes with Brazil and Argentina for example.

Seriously? They hardly dominate anymore. They lost to the U.S. in the WJC last year (I believe twice?), Lost to Sweden this year, and in the Olympics lost to the U.S. and then barely beat them in the final.

USA Basketball is your answer. Football would be too but we are really the only ones that play it.

There is plenty of countries that have some kind of leauge (and int. comp.) with US Football, however only (except Canada?) on an amateur level.

Yup.

The Soviets dominated the exact same sport in question for a longer period and with a far greater stranglehold. The Red Army was once thought unbeatable; no nation has ever held Canada in such esteem.
