He was a useful bottom six C in MN when he was younger, and had a great first year with Vegas, but injuries have limited him since.
What kind of contract will he get as a FA, and where will he go?

Power play specialist, better at C than W but not great defensively. He's been the odd man out 2 of his last 3 teams.

Great speed but he's got knee issues, and he wants to prove himself as a top 2 C.

Their fans want someone better but he'd do well in Winnipeg as 2C

Despite arguably being the best UFA center available (a testament to how weak that particular market is this Summer), I think he gets squeezed. His play tailed off in Carolina and that stint included a clash with his coach. He wasn't productive in his short time in Florida. The knee is a concern. Most importantly, the pandemic is doing a number on revenue throughout the league.

Something like $3.5 mil x 2 years to a team that needs center help. Sticking around with Florida makes sense, budget permitting.

I'd say he takes a 2 year prove it deal, lines up when SEA is playing and the cap may start increasing again. Tons of injuries the last year and a half.
He wasnt on our FLAs top PP unit and had very limited viewings because of the pause.

I'd say 2 years at $3 to 3.5 million?
He averages 18 goals and 36pts over 82 game average so that seems fair?
He'll be 30 in March so he could still sign a 3-4 year deal after that 2 year deal when he's 32?
Doubtful if he's coming back to FLA though.

I wager on a "prove it" sort of deal with a team lacking Center depth. I think his best fit is probably somewhere he could be that sorta pseudo #2C. I think he'd make a little bit of sense with the Rangers on a sorta filler deal. 2 years @ $3M or something. He'd be serviceable with the sort of wingers the Rangers have, and give a layer of insulation for the young Centers.

He hasn't really looked the same to me, since the knee thing though. It's always an issue with players whose game is based so much around speed/quickness/explosiveness, when they lose a degree of that. He seems to have suffered from that, and was far from a complete player to begin with. Also one of those oddball players who seems to be a lot better at Center...but not really good enough to stick as a competent 2nd Line C on a contender, but also not really suited to a checking role.

Is there someone out there who needs an offensive #3C? It's a tough market to be a vendor in.

My knee jerk comparable with him was Marcus Johansson getting a 2 year deal @ 4.5 AAV with Buffalo last offseason. Johansson was 28 (going on 29) and coming off of a couple of seasons where he missed chunks of time due to injury. When healthy, Johansson had been a consistent 40-50 point guy. Maybe Haula gets something in that neighborhood from a team that views him as a 2nd line option?

Haula could be a nice 3C add for the Sabres behind Eichel and Staal. Rumours are Sabres are interested in pursuing Haula.

I think we wants 2C duties. Don't expect him to sign on as a 3C, especially being the best FA center on the market. Probably looking for a Kadri-type deal.

I'd give him a shot between ehlers and laine on the jets. Can't get a better situation on a show me deal than that

Did not care for him in Florida. Doesn't play a game that makes him a good center. I wouldn't take him back in Florida unless he's under 3.5m
Would have much rather kept Trocheck than do that trade. Thanks, Tallon.
Funny that he's another Finnish player with ties to both FLA and MIN who wants a top 6 role even though he isn't good enough for one. (Bergenheim feels)

He should be the Oilers #1 target. I hope they can get AA under contract at a price less then his QO

AA Haula Puljujarvi as a 3rd line could be very good .
