A question was asked on Twitter:
How many hat-tricks by the same player have been recorded in two consecutive games between the same teams in the regular season?
It was prompted by the 29th anniversary of such feat achieved by Brett Hull, via @STLBlueshistory .
I did a research on the topic. The answer is 3. By two players only. Hull is the second, the first one was Babe Dye, who did it twice, vs. Canadiens in the 1921/22 season, and vs. Bulldogs in the 1922/23 season.
Hull is the only one to do it on the consecutive days, and in the era where there were enough teams to make series of games between two teams quite rare during the regular season.
If we add playoffs to the query, then we also get Doug Bentley (1944 SC) against the Red Wings and Jari Kurri (1985 SC) against the Black Hawks.
The full research is available on my blog. Thanks to @STLBlueshistory and to the inquiring mind on Twitter for giving the idea.
