Has the NHL ever shut down the season for any period of time for any reason? Just wondering if it has happened and why. I am referring to something unscheduled. Olympics is a planned for event. A lockout is something that was planned before the season started. A strike would be initiated by the players.

Lockouts, Olympics, 1919 Spanish Flu Epidemic (canceled the final games of the Stanley Cup Final).

No war shutdowns, though WWII did effectively kill the New York Americans.

If you read that the way I did, it's actually quite a funny sentence due to its accuracy in two ways
