How can that locker room be anything but toxic?

Im sure he'd embrace a fresh start on a team where he wasn't required to be the best player on the ice every night.

There has to be something behind the curtain if the Oilers would consider moving him at all. They would be crazy to trade him unless he is a malcontent poisoning the well there. They will not get equal value back for him.

The skating isn't there, so he's having some sort of minor injury he's playing with. But also, he's hanging his head a bit. I don't think he's quit on the team but it's more that the losing is getting to him a bit.
