interesting that AHL does not designate Tarmo as a 'Rookie'

FAQ

So they recognize European leagues to determine if someone is a rookie, but not to determine if something is a player's first professional goal/assist....

Cuylle made one really good play driving to the net causing a lot of chaos around the goal. Although the Pack didn't score on that play he generated a good opportunity. He is not outstanding but he doesn't look out of place. He can keep up with the pace. This is a reasonably good showing for a recent draftee. So he's not Kappo Kakko but he's not Robin Kovacs.
How was Will Cuyle?

Agree. The big difference today was Kinkaid wasn't in goal. Pack outshot Bridgeport 32-18. Brodzinski picks up Bridgeport turnover behind the net and passes out from to Newell for 3-2 lead. But Pack have defensive breakdown and Bridgeport gets open shot from above the circle. The camera is behind the play so it's hard to see whether Wall screened or just missed shot but third shot from above the circle that Wall lets in. Fourth goal is another defensive breakdown where Bridgeport player walks in from the side and passes across the net and looked like it went in off a Bridgeport player skate.

Over 3 games Reunanen and Brodzinski are the players that consistently stick out. Khodorenko, Cuylle, Barron and Reuschhoff had had moments. Schneider looked good in his 2 games. Rest of the players, meh. Not bad just meh.

I think Barron still looks a bit hesitant at times. he's trying to time and read plays as opposed to just being aggressive and forcing the opposition to make mistakes. He has the size and the reach. And he has a decent shot and some vision. He's just not asserting his size and will on opponents consistently yet. And as a result he's not playing fast enough or involved enough. He has the skills to drive play more and he's not doing it.

This is usually an issue for players transitioning to the pro game, but more so with kids coming from Juniors or Europe. They tend to hang out in soft spots on the ice instead of pressuring the puck relentlessly. Barron, perhaps because he was relied on for his offense at Cornell, has a bit too much of that in his game.

On the opposite end, Reuschoff, who also just came out of school, has similar strengths to Barron but he tends to keep his feet moving more and as a result seems more effective than Barron. He seems to me to be the better version of Gettinger. Could be a good fourth liner if he keeps showing more and more aggressiveness.

That said, Barron finds a way to get on the scoresheet. I just want him to be more impactful in all areas.

Cuylle turned 19 just 12 days ago. The fact that he can not look out of place and even contribute is an excellent sign.

Cuylle is another one similar to Barron and Reuschoff who if he just keeps his legs moving and uses his size and will, can carve out a career. If these three can become line drivers on a consistent basis they each could end up in a bottom 6 role or complimentary forward. But they all have a ways to go to being consistent drivers of play. Would be great if 2 of these kids could find that next level or two. Would mean a lot to the long term success of rebuild.

Cuyelle is a player who has a role that is carved out for him in the NHL. He could be a very good, quite physical bottom-2 line players. But he also has the potential to be a 2nd line player. I think that he carves out a spot as a middle two line player.

This may be stupid but I'm rooting for him extra hard to make up for the Lias miss, kind of how Fast made up for Sanguinetti.

When we learned that K'Andre Miller would not play last night and Jack Johnson having had only one practice and presumably not available I wondered if the Rangers would bring up Reunanen. I don't know whether they would have like to have brought him up but it's clear why they didn't. There was a brief reference in Rick Carpinello's Athletic piece this morning about the Rangers not having cap space to bring him up. Larry Brooks's article https://nypost.com/2021/02/18/jacob-trouba-injury-presents-rangers-with-salary-cap-puzzle/ goes into more detail about the Rangers's cap issues and why bringing up Reunanen was not an option. Without moving a player it looks like the Rangers may not be able to bring up Reunanen this year.

According to Gerry Canlon on Howlings Fontaine has an injured shoulder.

0-0 after 1. Pack outshooting Bruings 15-9. Two ineffective on two powerplays.

Ronning in for Fontaine and along with Barron was the best Pack. Running very active, always on the puck and had several good shots and passes. Barron more active than past games with a good chance and a couple of good passes.

Justin Richards listed as scratch.

Fontaine is on the taxi squad

Few things so far:

1 - Barron scored. He's def playing better. Just needs to keep improving. But he does a good job of converting his chances.

2 - Wall is pretty good, but he doesn't make good decisions when he has to handle the puck.

more later.

I think the tweet reads not Fontaine's shoulder

Bruins get 2 in first minute of 2nd, Barron gets 1 back a few minutes later
