JAM was almost a PPG in the year he was on Hartford

Jones has like 16 in 50 games

Don’t think they’re comparable at all
I was the person to initially bring up JAM and it wasn't to compare the two players in terms of ability or anything like that. When JAM came in, we didnt initially know why the team didn't sign him to an ELC after his debut late in the year and playoffs. It wasnt until much later we found out that he repeatedly declined offers from us because he wanted a chance to sign elsewhere with a more clear path. There wasn't a lot of reporting being done on the guy.

It would seem like Jones could have easily received an offer after TCT and camp. He was the most notable fringe guy and better than Elmer and Newell who received ELCs. Why didn't he sign? Did we offer him a contract? Does he have his eye on something else? Who knows. That was my only point, no one really takes the time to do a deep dive on Nick Jones and where he stands. The best we had were some quotes from the team earlier in the year that they liked him, he had been injured, but now he's healthy and they expect him to get back to it.

So, again. I just brought it up as a reminder that we don't always know what's going on.

Its hard to compare since JAM was a really talented player but due to his lack of size nobody really believed in him. Size wasn't seen as a requirement, but there was still a notion that you had to be pretty special to make it without size. Today those players are highly coveted from Day 1.

I think the best comparison to JAM in HFD right now is Mason Geertsen lol -- if NYI wins the Cup this year and everyone starts to trap, resulting in that people starts to chase guys like him and he gets picked up and takes on a big role for a NHL team. Then we can look back and say wow Geertsen was a really physical hard nosed D in HFD who actually was pretty good for an enforcer type.

Hartford has the easiest schedule remaining in their conference. They are two points back of 1st with 2 games in hand. There is a good chance that they are winning their division and will be at home, at minimum, their first series, and 2nd series (if they win). With an unreal home record, being first in the conference would be ideal for a long run in the postseason.

On top of all of that, they could even get a boost of Shesterkin playing in the playoffs, if the NYR want to go in that direction, and adding a player like Barron to boost the offense. If Shesty plays, they'll have a chance to win it all. He's just that good, as we are seeing at the NHL level.

They REALLY need some help on offense. I'm really hopeful Gorton and Drury consider sending down guys like Kaako, Chytil and Howden at a minimum. All of them could use the confidence boost from a good AHL playoffs

I think this was talked about in the other thread on the pack, but I have a hard time seeing Kakko, Chytil, and Howden going down. Howden has not 1 minute in the AHL. Same for Kakko and Chytil was only sent down for 9 games.

I also have a feeling Kakko and Chytil will get the nod for the Worlds this year. Kakko was really good for them last year and Chytil probably makes a Czech team that isn't super deep as it is.

The only guys are probably Shesterkin and Di Guiseppe that go down to play in the AHL playoff. PDG was there for a long time this season and would be a nice boost. Shesty, if not getting the nod for Russia, would put them over the top in nets.

has Hartford ever been good offensively? I feel like some teams like the Marlies, Crunch, Checkers etc always have guys (both AHL lifers and prospects) scoring at PPG levels and the Wolfpack leading scorer is always like .79 ppg.

There are a few high scoring players in the AHL, but when you break it down a bunch of them play on the same team and of the 31 AHL teams, not many at all have even one player scoring at a 0.75 clip.

Shesty was just announced as the #1 goalie on the Rangers. Any chance of him returning to the AHL for the playoffs is gone now.

AHL regular season ends after the NHL regular season. If they wanted to get him games, since he's never had a big workload before, they could absolutely do it.

Lias Andersson, 2 assists in 5 games with HV71 Jonkoping. That's some earth shattering stuff there, Lias. You sure are showing the Rangers how wrong they were about you. EDIT: oops thought I was posting in the prospects thread although I guess Lias isn't technically a prospect anymore. oh well!

Mariners beat Newfoundland again tonight 2-1, with 2 helpers from Day, and play them again tomorrow. The win puts them into 3rd place.

What about russia in the worlds? I'm sure shesty would rather play for russia if picked than in the ahl playoffs.

if he makes team russia then no question he goes but if he doesn't the AHL playoffs would be a good experience so it should at least be on the table

Yeah definitely the WC would be the priority.
Depends, is he starting? I know this is just me as a fan speaking but if I were him, I would want to go where I was going to make an impact. Learning to win championships is important but if I'm riding pine all WC behind Bobrovsky and possibly Georgiev, give me Calder Cup playoffs. And should Tampa get knocked out early and Vasilevskiy come over for the WC, forget about it. Shesty wouldn't even see the bench. He can go to Casino night if he wants to wear a suit.

Yeah, I mean, you make a compelling case. I think for me, though, it seems like for many of the European and Russian guys, the chance to represent their country is seen as a really big deal, even if they're not playing. I know this isn't the Olympics, but I've seen many European players and posters say over the year that for them, the Olympics are just as important as winning a Cup (which I think is partly based on how in Europe, there are so many country-based tournaments relative to what we have in North America where it's the US and Canada and no one near us). So I do think the Calder Cup would be potentially most beneficial, but I know how important these guys view the big international tournaments.

so Berube takes McCollum's place at HWP,
and McCollum and LZG AHL contracts go to Philly's AHL team who assign them to their ECHL team ...

I like that move... Zerter-Gossage was all hustle but more of an ECHLer than AHLer at this stage, was even down in Maine when he was traded. McCollum was just... experimental lol. Not suprised they assigned him straight to the ECHL.

Berube as a solid vet and Huska should bode well for the playoffs. Me gusta!

So if I'm reading this right, all that is left to do is trade the future considerations from the Berube deal for the future considerations from this deal.

Neat.

Ha. Would be neat, but this was strictly an AHL deal with AHL assets, and any future considerations would be as well. So it couldn't complete the Berube deal as those would have to be NHL assets.

Thought this was cool....

Warmups we’re wrapping up & most players came off the ice. The whole Thunderbirds team went back into the locker room & most of the Wolfpack. There were still about two minutes left & Lettieri & Kravtsov stayed out for the full warmup time, passing the puck quickly to each other. With four seconds ticking left in warmup they took a full sprint, almost racing each other to see who the last one off the ice was. Thought it was a cool little moment.

Oh & Kravtsov was the last one off the ice!!
