He came to the building where I work a couple of years back for a signing session.

Totally unrehearsed or prompted everyone just started clapping as his limo pulled up and he walked in. He still has the physique of an athlete.

Happy Birthday Mr Hockey

I think he gets an applause pretty much were ever he goes... must be embarrasing coming out of the mens room though:D

Met gordie at a meet an greet after a houston aeros game.. TONS of people coming at him one after another .. by the time I got there I'd thoroughly psycked myself... pretty much thought.. older guy, hockey player, ...he'd be dismissive to a bunch of black kids. ... he looked me in the eye with a smile that acknowledged someone different from the mass of rednecks that had been coming, then put his massive (and I mean MASSIVE) hands on my shoulder and smiled for a picture. I'm 6f 1 and about 180 and I swear I felt like a kindergartener next to him:biglaugh:

Think I blattered something out like "its an honor to meet you sir" he asked..."hockey player" and I nodded and said, the only one among my friends there.... he smiled... well that makes you the smartest one now doesn't it?

I dunno about that one gordie :) if you'd seen me play in my early 20's.....well.....

The most staggering stat of Gordie's career to me is that he finished in the top 5 scoring for 20 consecutive years. Think about that for a minute. Then add in the fact that he played against a future hall of fame goalie almost every game till expansion in '67.

He may have not been the very best hockey player in history, but he's got my vote as the greatest athlete. Like c'mon. 20 straight years in the top 5. Simply amazing!
