God Bless America, and the rest of the world, especially those that endeavor to make/keep it free.

Enjoy!

{in the public domain: original lyrics by Francis Scott Key, originally titled Defence of Fort McHenry; The Library of Congress estimates October 19 of that year, 1814, is when it was first renamed The Star Spangled Banner. The tune is based on an old British drinking song, The Anacreontic Song (To Anacreon in Heaven), credited to John Stafford Smith, 1778.}

O say can you see by the dawn’s early light
what so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming
whose broad stripes and bright stars
through the perilous fight
o’er the ramparts we watched
were so gallantly streaming
And the rockets red glare
the bombs bursting in air
gave proof the night
that our flag was still there
O say does that star spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

So say the brave free, our great flag flies with might,
Stars ‘n stripes speak most loud, U. S. A. has liberty!
Recall then God’s great gift
was this rev’rent blest night.
Tho’ McHenry most bombed,
the Fort’s distressed armory.
But Brit shells were denied,
we now trumpet with pride,
Our prayers had been heard
God’s Own Hand on our side!
Yay proclaim the Star-Spangled Banner still waves,
Unfurl’d Old Glory be, freedom’s Author so saves!

Special thanks to LMM, a friend to us all. I have not had the pleasure of meeting the man, He graciously had a kind word for an underdeveloped demo of this some years back.
The mp3, which you may preview below, was only final remixed/remastered subsequently.

The spirit of the founding fathers is literally non-existent in America today. Oh well, I’ll take the long weekend and excuse to knock a few back.

Amusingly, most Americans have no clue that July 4th 1776 was the day we declared ourselves independent and kicked off the war. (in earnest, violence and tensions had been simmering for years, escalating significantly in the year leading up to the declaration). The Revolutionary War ended September 3rd 1783, a date that isn’t commemorated in any fashion. Well, September 3rd is my wife’s birthday, but 205 years later.

You can declare yourself independent but if the colonies hadn’t succeeded in the war that spanned the next 7 years, it would be a meaningless footnote of a date. It galvanized many patriots to make a statement and sign a declaration, but much like Messier saying we would win - if we hadn’t followed through it would be an historical afterthought. I’ve always been confused as to why we celebrate the declaration instead of the actual victory.

Meh, we don’t deserve it. Degenerates all around.

Kidding, of course, I appreciate the sentiment.

God Bless the United States of America....

hopefully we can make it to our 250 year anniversary

250? Yeah, probably limping across the line. 275? Wouldn’t take the bet right now. I’m looking at farm land in Poland, Austria, etc. Not even kidding. Years in the US military, disability, swings of depression, etc. because of it… I love my country. It’s just not really my country anymore. And I’m not referencing the hot political talking points; the economic situation, shrinking middle class and degradation of standard moral values are enough.
