Our city council has been a joke for years. I’m not going to list all their gaffes because as Hamiltonians we know what they are for the most part. They couldn’t plan a one car parade down King St.

Unfortunate and Andlauer deserves better. Hope he finds something that works for him.

The Lime Ridge Mall Arena idea was just a plain bad idea because city would not make any money on the project plus the Arena was way to small to begin with & would not attract the big name acts for non hockey events so this was just a good business decision by the city of Hamilton .

Hamilton is bidding on the 2030 commonwealth games in which they are the front runners & would come with brand new world class arena on the government dime so patience Michael Andlauer once we get the 2030 games in a few months you will get a world class 18.000 seat arena for free much better than that 6.000 seat Low Class arena you had planed .
Good Luck Looking elsewhere because there are not places out there .

What size were they talking? I thought they were looking at 10,000 to 12,000 London holds 9,000+ and they currently get the same acts as Hamilton

A 6,000-8,000 seat arena isn’t low class. It’s a standard size for CHL hockey, which is also frequently used for concerts and other events across Ontario. Besides, what makes a 18,000 seats arena with mostly empty seats classy?

With the size of arena Andlauer wants, no, you probably won’t get Garth Brooks and some of those big acts. But how many concerts does Hamilton host that requires that size? Most of the events that come to Hamilton also travel to other OHL arenas anyway (London, Barrie, Oshawa). There are quite a number of events that travel throughout most OHL arenas as well. I suggest you take a look at the Peterborough Memorial Centre and look at their ongoing events. They do an excellent job of attracting decent concerts and events, and keeping the place busy. Frequent events and ticket sales = income for ongoing maintenance and upkeep.... something that has been a struggle for Hamilton’s budget with the First Ontario Centre.

Spending significantly more to have a NHL sized arena and the increased maintenance fees that go with it just to host a few large events is a poor investment. The reason why the building was built in the first place was in hopes of having a NHL team which never happened, and it certainly doesn’t look to be a possibility in the near future.

Edit: quoted post I was replying to.

As per a letter from Mr Andlauer the Bulldogs are in Hamilton at least through next season. I guess we will see after that.

Not sure if I'm interested in renewing my season tickets though. I don't mind watching the team rebuild, but if they aren't going to be here at the end of it then I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Maybe I'll just get some flex packs...

The Lime Ridge Mall arena was bad Idea because one the arena is to small two Lime Ridge mall is a bad location & finally they wanted the city to pony up 91 million dollars on a project that would see little if nothing on there investment while Lime Ridge mall owners & Mr. Andlauer would pocket all the money this was just a plain good business decision the city made.

Not to mention we should know by the summer if Hamilton will be the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games & if or when
Hamilton wins they will get a new arena for free if not come back to the city with a better idea & location for a new arena like somewhere downtown because Lime Ridge was just awful .

Here are some other junior teams that play in big arenas .
Edmonton Oil Kings - Rogers Place
Calgary Hitmen - Saddledome
Quebec Remparts - Videotron center
Quebec history of supporting their team thru thick and thin. Not sure what support Edmonton or Calgary gets.

Sucks to see the team go.

Hopefully an AHL team or OHL team comes to the city in a few years.

While it sucks seeing teams move, Hamilton has never been a city that supports their hockey teams well. When the AHL was in town the attendance wasn't good. What I don't get is Hamilton will easily sellout games for the Ti-Cats but have hard time getting fans out to see hockey. For the city of their size I would expect to at least average the same attendance as Niagara.

The Bulldogs are not going anywhere this is an empty threat & that is how the city is taking it because there is not very good options out for Andlauer to look at .

What the city is basically telling him to be patient & wait until the 2030 Commonwealth games host city is announced & if Hamilton is award the 2030 games he might not have to spend a dime on the arena since it will be government funded if Hamilton dose not get the Games then the city talk about new 10.000 - 15.000 seat Downtown\Mountain arena but since Hamilton is the front runner for the games most likely going to see an new 18.000 seat downtown arena & a possible NHL. team in Hamilton by 2030.

Forget about Lime Ridge Mall. It was a single proposal he made to try and get the ball rolling and find a solution but the city doesn’t seem to want to discuss alternative ideas unless it’s their own. Your initial post was mainly about wanting the Bulldogs to wait for the possibility of another NHL size arena and you completely missed my point about OHL size arenas.

You called 6,000 seat arenas low class, yet 5,000 - 8,000 seat arenas are standard not just in the OHL but the CHL. You were worried that they wouldn’t get big concerts, but OHL arenas still attract many quality events. Based on your posts, you’re clearly focused on an NHL size arena and are clung on to the hope that an NHL team will come to Hamilton years down the road. Hamilton tried that before and where’s the NHL team? It’s a poor investment. It seems like you’re more concerned about the fantasy of having a NHL team rather than having a suitable a suitable arena for the Bulldogs.

You want Andlauer to be patient and you believe his threat of looking elsewhere is empty. I would confidently bet that it is not an empty threat and that he is exploring other options. Why? Because it isn’t solely his call and he is likely already getting pressure from the OHL to find a suitable location since the problems with the current arena isn’t getting fixed. When owners buy a team, they agree to meeting and maintaining standards. When he applied for the Memorial Cup, the CHL came back and said the arena is not suitable (for many reasons), which Andlauer has spoke in detail about since then. The refrigeration system for the ice is breaking down and the city is dragging its heels on fixing it. Come to this afternoon’s game and bring an umbrella... because your seat might be wet from the leaky roof. There are leaks everywhere - in the halls, in the seats, even directly behind the Bulldogs’ bench. If Andlauer does nothing and waits like you want him to, the team will be moved by the OHL, which is exactly how the team moved from Belleville to Hamilton. The league basically forced the sale to Andlauer and the move to Hamilton because the previous owner (still a minority owner in the Bulldogs) and the city of Belleville squabbled on who should pay for the renos and upgrades with little getting done. The OHL stepped in and within 2-3 months the team was moved.

Andlauer and Staios are clearly trying to make the Hamilton Bulldogs a top class OHL team. While many aspects of what they have implemented are top class already, having a busted refrigeration system and failing to fix hurts the reputation. Having 2,000 - 4,000 people in an NHL lower bowl kills the atmosphere. Having players walk through a sketchy part of the city at 3am to get to their cars after a long bus ride home is insane. Change needs to be done soon.

Yes, that is exactly what the agenda of his posts are about.

If you think that building a big arena will get an NHL team in Hamilton I would encourage you to look downtown at the NHL sized rink that has been sitting there for 35 years.

You are aware that the city stood nothing to gain out of Lime Ridge mall Arena financially that is why the project was rejected do fact that they wanted 91 million from the city & city would get nothing in return while Andlauer & the Lime Ridge owners stood to get all the profits & that is what I am trying to explain here & oh by the way the Bulldogs OHL is doing far much better than the AHL. Bulldogs ever did at the box office .

If Andlauer \ Lime Ridge mall owners wants this 6.000 seat arena so bad at Lime Ridge Mall fund it your selves privately since the city won't see a dime out of it anyways .

It’s pointless having this conversation when you completely ignore the posts you reply to. The first thing I said in my last post was “Forget about Lime Ridge Mall”.

You’re also ignoring the overall situation and the needs of the Bulldogs and keeping an OHL team in Hamilton while fixated on a single proposal and wanting another NHL arena. I did not say anything about the Lime Ridge Mall proposal aside from saying “Forget about Lime Ridge Mall”.
