So Lehky gets a 3rd.....and we lose a very serviceable player for a very highly probable nada. Particularly where nada is even a bigger gamble now.

Not good asset management if we really want to get far in the playoffs.

If one wants to argue that we add him in a trade to get an improvement over Edmy/Chiarot, I'm all for it, but it may just be just a low value that the first thing I would do is see if we add a 4th covers the ask.

If his salary is gong to make that difference, sure, but then, who are we getting were we need to open that much cap space? Ekholm? We got Chiarot on IR. He stays there until a week before playoffs.

I just don't want to go into playoff grind with AHLers coming up to cover any injuries.

That's exactly right. Also, we're gonna need wingers next season with Tatar and Armia likely not coming back.

Leky has value that many people don't see , but as a penalty killer and energy guy he is a excellent bottom 6 forward.

Frankly I would trade Armia in an instant over Leky, talk about a guy who just can't put it together with the size and shot he possess.

Armia should not be back on the Habs next year.

They arent going to trade lehkonen for a 3rd. They already have a million picks, including two 3rd round picks.

Lehkonen is also rfa at the end of the season, so there is no rush to move him.

If they do move lehkonen, hes going to be part of a package for a better player.
Players who are being healthy scratched to in order to play ancient Cory Perry don't add anything of value to a package.

You may want to watch “ancient Corey (not Cory)Perry play some games for Montreal. He’s been very effective in his role as a fourth line and power play specialist. Still has terrific hands and net front presence.

Byron/Armia/Leks/and picks and possibly Mete and Kulak are all possible chips in being moved out to create space, and or facilitate a trade for a better PMD who can play in the top 4.

Was reading that Laine might get traded to Montreal because he isn't looking to sign in Columbus so I could see Montreal clearing salary for him.

Columbus:
Drouin
Tatar

Montreal:
Laine

i wish, can't see them wanting Tatar with Torts, got to think it starts with a re-signed Danault (or they let both sides talk to agree on a deal once he's traded).

Oh man, I want Laine. He’s one player I’d trade a lot for. Make it happen, Bergy!

2021 2nd , 2022 2nd, 2021 4th and lehkonen for Devon toews .

Why would Colorado trade Toews when they just traded for him?

I definitely would trade Armia. He holds more value as a big, RHS that can pk & move up and down the lineup.

If you think Paul Byron is that much of a detriment to the Habs right now your out of touch
You’re more than welcome to keep your long term contracts on 4th line guys. No one else wants them. Just don’t scratch your head about a lack of cap space and roster options.

Realistic Habs fans have accepted that Byron isn't going anywhere this season, and that's okay.

And probably not going anywhere in the offseason either, at least Without attaching draft picks or taking back a similar contract someone else doesn’t want.

A change of scenery swap of bad contracts.

sounds like OP with a misleading introduction.

I'm sure Marc Bergevin still works for a d-man and for clearing cap space

Byron to Chicago with a 2nd or a b prospect should work and maybe Danault to another playoff team

Dunn & Hoffman healthy scratches for the Blues, so convince them that they need Byron's "veteran leadership" in a bigger deal to right their ship...might work...doubtful, but who knows...

1. Clearing cap space by trading Lehkonen for a 3rd round pick, so we could acquire a bottom pairing defenseman makes absolutely no sense. Whatever the problem between him and the new coaching staff is, Lehkonen's a 25 years old player under team control, who can be counted on to provide 30 even strength/penalty kill points and excellent forechecking abilities. He's not a 4th liner. He's by no means untouchable, but he's not a cap dump.

2. The idea that the Habs are gearing up for the playoffs by trading Danault is absolutely bizarre. It's a narrative pushed by a section of Habs fans who loathe the player and it doesn't deserve discussion any more than flying pink unicorns.

1. If we can move Lehkonen for a 3rd I would absolutely do it. We had plenty of forward depth even before adding Staal and Caufield. Even if we didn't trade him, I wouldn't want to qualify him at $2.4M when it's a flat cap we can likely get more out of that money in the offseason. I know we don't need more picks but we can flip that 3rd and/or other picks for defensive help.

2. I agree 100%.
