Just where do you put him

His defense is so bad and the only thing he can do is pass and most of his production is secondary assists.

Well I'm not sure. You are preaching to the converted here, but I don't think they can take him out. I can see him on the 4th line maybe. Try against weaker opposition. I don't think it would be outlandish to suggest he is not one of top 9 forwards on the team. Especially after Staal is in and Tof is back.

He's been meh the last 2 games, but was playing much better before the covid break.
He was getting assists......that's it. He was just ok but that's just my 2 cents.
By seasons end, people are not going to be impressed by his points total for 5.5M
He still seems to have a non contact jersey on almost every night...

Drouin's spot is where I think Staal should go. He could take some draws on that line and help them get possession a bit more often. Id actually like to see Staal-Suzuki-Toffoli when healthy.

I just don't see Drouin playing winning hockey against tough competition.
That’s my preferred Staal line if he isn’t at center.

Staal with Suzuki would be good to help with face-offs.

Staal-Suzuki-Anderson
Toffoli-Kotkaniemi-Caufield
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Lehkonen-Evans-Perry

Would be really good.
Yeah, they could take them on their strong sides.

additionally, in the offensive zone, the center not taking the draw could line up near the boards, jump on loose pucks with their forehand in the middle of the ice. They could work a little set play off it. (A play toffoli is familiar with. I’ve seen him score off it, pre-Habs. )

Hot Dog, I like it...but Drouin is on the outside here. IMO he can't be a healthy scratch without seeing if he has trade value. I don't know what value he has (I honestly don't think much), but sinking more out of it seems like the wrong move at this point.

Caufield hasn't played one game and you sit Drouin for him ?

Look at how Lafreniere and Hughes to name a few are struggling before appointing Caufield savior of the team. He'll start in the AHL first, if he plays well he then might have a chance at the bottom 6. As exciting a prospect as he is, he's still exactly that... A prospect.

Drouin sucks so yeah, I would sit him for Caufield and see what happens.

I like those lines.

Drouin-Evans-Perry may also be a good line.

Those hating on Drouin need to give their heads a shake.
Yeah those two goals, questionable decisions and lack of effort are worth WAY more than nothing.

He's getting outplayed, dramatically, by old man Perry.

Drouin not scoring is a bum

Hate is only used when people are critical of francophone players, ever notice that? It always seems to find it's way into a thread when an underperforming French player gets criticized, shocker!!!
Quelle surprise!

The Drouin criticisms seem harsh. He’s hustling, engaged in the play, not simply a passenger on his line.

The trouble i see with him is that, offensively, he’s always ad-libbing. Going off script. It’s hard to be on the same page as skilled linemates when you aren’t following the script. Just watch ... Staal will come in and, right away, show some chemistry with a skilled line mate. They’ll know how to feed off each other. JD doesn’t have those instincts.

I’d like to see JD used on a line that’s lacking talent. An infusion of skill on a line that keeps things simple. Perhaps he could elevate their game in the offensive zone in a way he doesn’t on the top line.
So you want to add skill to an unskilled line by adding Jonathan drouin?

Who said he has NHL level skill?

He’s been our best playmaker all year.
Based on what?
An uncontrolled drinking habit?

He has been AWFUL in all 200 feet for every game, even those he got secondary assists in.

Lazy, soft, weak on the boards, can't score.

You know, a bum.

Scouts, GMs, other NHL players, and fans.

the better question is: who said he does not?

So yakupov then?
Small, soft, weak on the boards, consistently given 1st line minutes no matter how bad he plays.

I mean a singular NHL GM and coach thought he would be the cat's pyjamas down the middle.

How did that work out for him?

More importantly, how did it work out for the team?

Could this work?

My second attempt at this
.

Tatar-Danault-Gally(good 5v5)
Staal-Suzuki-Toffoli(faceoff help)
Drouin-KK-Anderson(cycle-1 passer)
(Leks/Armia/Byron)-Evans-Perry

But like others said I'm having big doubts about Staal playing wing...

If not:

Tatar-Danault-Gally
Drouin-Suzuki-Toffoli
(Leks/Byron/Armia)-KK-Anderson
(Byron/Leks/Armia)-Staal-Perry

With Caufield:

Tatar-Danault-Gally
Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson
Toffoli-KK-(Armia/Caufield)
(Caufield/Byron/Leks/Armia)-Staal-Perry

Sorry for the long post lol.

Tatar-Danault-Gally(good 5v5)
Hall-Suzuki-Toffoli(faceoff help)
Drouin-KK-Anderson(cycle-1 passer)

If not:

Tatar-Danault-Gally
Drouin-Suzuki-Toffoli
Lesks/Byron/Armia-KK-Anderson
Leks/Byron/Armia-Hall-Perry

With Caufield:

Tatar-Danault-Gally
Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson
Toffoli-KK-Armia
Caufield-Hall-Perry
Leks-Byron

Sorry for the long post lol.

When you say Hall, do you mean Staal?

I'm a big fan, by the way, of the idea of adding Hall as well by TDL.

As for your lines, Staal and Toffoli might be too slow together. To balance the speed out, I'd go for the following winger duos, where KK and Suzuki each get one:
Drouin-Toffoli
Staal-Anderson

Best way to ruin a prospect, something this organization excells at.

Ruining a prospect is keeping them out of position, not playing where they are intended to play, and with players who don't help them on the ice.. and keeping them at a level they can't handle.

Playing any player for a short period of time to gage their ability at that level does not ruin anyone.
