    'he's only got 7 points in 7 games".....he's not worth a third

    "he's only got 12 points in 15 games"......he's not worth a second

    I'll wait for 'he's not worth a first"......and take a second.

i saw someone bringing up a 1st if it were Boston acquiring him due to the divisional tax... that's plenty?

From Boston? A first and one of their best prospects if it's them.

In his last 8 games he has 4 points and crashing back down to earth.
I'll wait for "hes not worth trading if a 3rd is all we can get"
By the time the deadline hits

My guess a conditional 3rd, becomes a 2nd if the team makes the semis

I've especially been impressed with the work that Thompson is doing with youngsters. Suzuki started out with him, then Poehling and now Evans. I've heard him called "uncle Nate - uncle Thompson" a few times on french media

He had the OT game winner in a critical playoff-implication game against Toronto
Also 2 for 2 in the shootout - pretty sure one was a game winner, maybe both, not sure how to check.
So - lots of clutchiness involved in his play so far too.

I don't know what he'll trade for (knowing our genius GM, he won't even try to trade him, will lose him for free in UFA) - but there's no way he's not worth more than a 3rd round pick to a contending team looking to add some offensive punch.

It's more the Habs crashing back down to earth as opposed to Kovy crashing down to earth. Our D has a 5 lane highway funnelled straight to Price.

I'd be ok with keeping him until at least the end of the training camp; seems like a good influence, good at taking defensive missions and plays with energy. With a C line of Domi, Suzuki and Danault, everything will rest on the Hab's evaluations of Poehling or Evans on the 4th line, or even if KK can take a spot back

    Sweeny isn't that dumb,

plus Boston has a ton of quality NHL ready D that he could offer which would immediately boost Montreal's Defense

12 points in 17 games. He's trending back down to his former production very quickly, despite getting a lot of prime opportunities and over 20 minutes of I've time or game in Montreal.

I’d guess a 3rd, but a 2nd isn’t out of the question - maybe a third with a condition to get to the 2nd like games played or playoff advancement. I’d be extremely surprised if he landed a 1st...

Pretty sure more than 1 team will be in on him and some GM offers the 2nd. Supply/Demand is a huge factor at each deadline. If there was more top 6 talent available as pending UFA's, you might be right but this year? Kovalchuk for a 2nd is fair.

When did 12 in 17 become a bad thing?

Dude costs nothing. People now know the right situation and good young players will fire him up. A team with the right pieces in place would love to bring him in if they are serious on a run.

The Lightning will have two first round picks this year since the Canucks are making the playoffs. That second rounder is easy to move.

It means he started off a PPG in Montreal, but his play has dropped off significantly since that start. Any team that gives up something substantial for him is making a mistake.

    I disagree.

He's getting 20 minutes a night, and heavily being played in the offensive zone and the PP, yet he's not really producing anymore. When he put up 9 points in 17 games in LA, he was worth zero. Now he's trending back towards those numbers, despite getting more opportunity in Montreal, yet is now "easily" worth a 2nd?

From the perspective of a Flames fan, if the Flames are giving up a 2nd for a .5 PPG, he'd better be able to contribute in other ways, EX: hits, PK, defensively, faceoffs etc...Not sure that I can say Kovalchuk contributes in any way besides being a trigger man.

an offensive player getting offensive starts? how dare he!

hate to break it to you, but the whole team isn't producing. Kovy is still one of the bright spots

you should check out how many hits he has with the Habs

Let me correct you here. His play did not drop off significantly, which you would know if you watched him. His production has dropped a bit, and that is because the team is terrible offensively & can't score. So he can't get assists. But make no mistake, his effort is still as good as it was when he first started with them. So in the right environment, he is worth at least a 3rd, & a 2nd is not out of the question.

I'm obviously no Habs fan, but on that team? 12 in 17 is pretty impressive for a guy that is still getting used to a new system/linemates.
