Low-risk so I don't have a problem with it. Seems better than Jerabek, Moravcik, and Sklenica.

I think Diaz is the only one who ever "worked out." Stayed with the team for 3 seasons and he had 0.6 PPG in the lockout season which is a small sample size but good production nonetheless.

(Obviously that's not including Mark Streit because we drafted him and that was a decade and a half ago.)

No, both qualities are not equally important. Thinking both qualities are equally important leads to giving the Karl Alzners of the world way too much money. The shutdown dman is a dying if not completely dead breed.

I feel like the definition of "equal" may be eluding you. You are actually proving his point as Alzner has no offensive game.

I'm glad the Habs are still digging looking for gold. I saw the Leafs sign two euro FAs and I was worried the Habs were being complacent.

Hope Leskinen pans out. You can't score if you don't shoot.

The Euro combine they had before last draft is paying off. The Montreal Canadiens brand is an advantage in terms of doing a Euro combine. Prospects will show up and we have the money to facilitate it.

That Euro combine could prove to be an even greater edge as it becomes more established.

One of the top offensive D in the Liiga. He is adequate defensively while being a PP specialist. He’s also plays LD. My hope is that he challenges for a spot on the team

To me this signing means that maybe we won't re-sign Jordie Benn. We already have Mete, Kulak, Reilly and Alzner on the left side for next year who are either RFAs or already signed. With Leskinen added to the mix and the possible signing of a guy like Gardiner, we would not need Benn, even though he was pretty good for us last year.

As for Leskinen himself, I know next to nothing about the guy but I'm hoping he performs better for us this coming season than the Czech guys we've signed last year.

Diaz also got us Weise that helped us beat the Bruins - then it got us Danault and Romanov.

Exemple of why gathering assets could always lead to something good.

Bergevin's asset management actually isn't that bad. If not for the 1 year with the Subban and Sergachev trades along with the Radulov/Markov fiasco, he'd probably be considered a Top 10 GM. The Domi trade was brilliant. The Weal trade was great. The aforementioned Weise/Danault/Romanov trade, acquiring Vanek for basically nothing. He's had his moments for sure.

he's certainly had his mix of good and bad, it's too early to say with Weal since it was only 16 games, before that 11 pts in 47 games with flyers/yotes. He's 27 and never played more then 69 games in the NHL but he has put up some decent numbers so we'll see how good he is or isn't.

I would have said the Danault trade was his best but he looks to have had one of the Habs best trades in the modern era with the Pac trade depending of course on how Suzuki and the 2nd round pick turn out. The Kulak trade is looking pretty good but we'll see how that goes as well as he's yet to play 82 games in the NHL but could turn out to be a nice surprise.

It took long enough but I also really like the coaching moves he made last off-season. No telling how huge that could be for us, at least for those that think coaching has a decent impact on players to which I do.

Picking up Luke Richardson and Joel Bouchard were huge.
