Both are bottom 6 guys and the fact that you're lauding Bergevin over taking a depth forward and a 4th for 3 million$ of cap relief is pathetic

Pathetic would be your post and assumptions on what I think of MB as a whole.

I don't think you understand what "lauding" means, either.

Habs need talent way more than size.
According to tampa fans, he is talented
He very well might be. I looked at his stats...best year in the minors was 46 points and he received a 2.6 million dollar one way contract with 20 NHL games of experience. What kind of GM hands out that kind of contract to someone who has proved nothing?

I am not sure we should gauge a player’s talent level by getting that feedback from Tampa fans...

My initial post in this thread was to say how ridiculous the contract is. Then some guys started defending the contract. I don't mind the player. But that contract is still ridiculous. First time since the mid 80ies i see an UFA AHL player getting a one way 2 years contract around 40% over the league's minimum. And i don't think i'll see that again anytime soon.

Double the league minimum

Dont know why he got that much (several teams were probably interested in him), but at the end of the day its only 1.3 mil per season for 2 years. Its nothing.

Do I even need to add that we have a full roster (23 players) and still have 13 mil in cap space...

Why not? That's where MB got his scouting reports.

I didn't say as a whole I said in regards to these moves. They're minor, ineffective sideways deals that gave us two more depth/4th line forwards and people like yourself are acting as if he signed future top 6 steals. Armia might have good advanced stats but that's largely an effect of playing against much lesser opponents on a monster of a team.

While the Leafs are popping champagne over Tavares we're here talking about Joel Freakin' Armia.... Sad!

Actually, this is the Matthew Peca thread. The Joel Armia thread is this way ----------------------------->

Lol.

I said I liked the signing, nothing more. You're simply very confused as to what this means and seem to be arguing against imaginary voices.

Well, Leafs been a terrible team 12 of last 14 years. I would imagine sun has to shine on them after awhile

Marchessault was a much better AHL player than Matthew Peca.
True, but like Marchessault, he was an NHL level player with us but because of our depth he just didn't get the chance he deserved. He looked good with the time he got and probably would probably get a regular spot in most teams.

3yrs ago, Tavares never signs in Toronto, the team was just in the beginning stages of their surgical tank.....a Marner, Matthews and Nylander later, they are competitive and ready to attract top UFA’s......we are not there yet.

We need at least one more tank year and some shrewd trades before we can consider ourselves in the champagne popping territory

Marchessault was a much better AHL player than Matthew Peca.

I don't think the poster compared their talent level, it is just some similarity in their paths. Nobody expects Peca to become a first liner like Marchessault. But if he becomes an effective bottom six centre for us, it is a win. If not, it is a very minor financial investment - the bulk of his salary will be exempted from the cap if he ends up in Laval.

I’m telling you what needs to happen, not what WILL happen lol

This Pacioretty impending trade is so crucial in the length of this “retool”

We need to win big on this
We know it, and every other GM in the league knows it too. Additionally, our GM is Marc Bergevin.

Which is why we've already lost big on this.

Sounds like he could be a good #4 center. At least, push DLR a little. Maybe, that is what he needs?

I really don't hate DLR has a 4th center. Probably one of the best 4th center in the league for his age.he is young and already knows what he is worth while doing a really good job on a defensive side, hell we can even put him on the PK.

I wanted a deslaurier/DLR/roussel Line but I guess we can replace Roussel with a better offensive player with a touch of Wilson/Reaves.

I'd trade Byron while his value is good.

He's UFA next year and will ask 3.5M/year.

I think we have a cheap replacement in Peca.

Byron 3rd for a 1st.

DLR team gives up a lot of shots for 4th line when he is centering it

Peca has only 3 goals to his name, he's a long long way from getting close to 20 G's that Byron got (twice). Unless Peca has a huge upswing in production, it's way too early to even contemplate Peca as being a replacement for Byron.
