How does it make sense tho? How can Despres and Valiev/Moravcik show their worth when they have to play a new position?

I really think Valiev deserve a chance to shine with a real NHL'er on his side because so far in preseason he's really impressive.

1G + 1A +5 in only 2 games.

Stats wise, yes but I find nothing in his game. He's average in all. Typical 5-7 d-man. I would prefer Reilly, Lernout etc.. players that brings something in their play.

Really really don't get what people magically saw in Lernout, the kid was lost and is still so freaking lost. Can't play 1 shift without banging into an other teammate.

I guess both teams are playing their prospects tonight. One last time to impress before things get serious. I'm expecting to see almost full NHL line ups on Wednesday between these same two teams. Excited to see Kotkaniemi and Suzuki.

Exactly the way I see it, I suppose this is the 'last chance lineup' for many of them.

The next wave of cuts should be tomorrow, junior/AHL for some, waivers/trade for others...

Hes' pretty good offensively and he can play very physical as well, he's a way better defenceman then Lernout,no doubt.

It's nice to see that both the Canadian Original Six teams are playing their young prospects in the pre-season, as they always did in pre-expansion era. Giving their development planning a boost, enabling their farm team coaches a very good opportunity to see where the prospects need improvement. Looking forward to the games between TML's and the Habs tonight & Wednesday night, Go Habs Go!!!...:thumbu::thumbu::thumbu::yo::yo::yo::vhappy::vhappy::vhappy:

Why are they playing 5 LD and only 1 RD? Are they just stupid?

One of the Czech guys plays his off side. Not sure if it's Moravcik or not. Additionally, they'll need someone to play bottom pairing RD to start the season and it's most likely going to be a left hand shot unless Lernout really impresses. So I'm not shocked to see a lot of left hand shots in the lineup as the team quite likely wants to see if anybody is capable of playing their off side better than Benn.

Excited to see Suzuki and Kotka again. Suzuki hasn't really had a chance to strut his stuff yet so hope he gets an opportunity with wingers that have skill.

What does Lernout bring, besides awful facial hair?

not to mention that if you`re one of the extra Dman not assured a spot this season...showing your versatility to play both sides can only help your case.

Lernout is pretty steady...brings a physical game and he can move for a guy his size. The fact he`s a right D also helps him IMO.

I would not be surprised if he makes the team, though it`s probably unlikely...he reminds me of Greg Pateryn a bit.

Physicality, solid defense and surprising skating ability for a big man. 3rd pairing guy
Agreed...my top 6 as of now is;

Reilly-Petry
Mete-Juulsen
Alzner-Lernout

#7 battle between;

Schlemko vs Ouellet vs Benn

#8 (likely 1st AHL call up on D) between;

Valiev vs Moravcik vs Sklenica vs Despres

Weird, I have the same D to begin the year. I think we will go with 7 D. I expect Benn to be on waivers or traded.

Yeah I see Benn getting traded or waived before the season starts...

Benn or Schlemko are going to make the team...not both.

And as of this preseason, that battle isn`t even close.

It`s even worse when you put Lernout & Ouellet in the mix.

Not to mention that Mike Reilly has come to camp with the goal of proving he can be a top 4 D

My D is

Benn, Schlemko, Alzner, Petry, Oulette, Reilly and Lernout.

Mete and Juulsen develop out of the shit storm and are guided by Bouchard.

Lines at practice according to Engels:

Chaput - Kotkaniemi - Armia
Hudon - Peca - Lehkonen
DLR - Suzuki - Scherbak
Shinkaruk - Froese - Agostino

Basically giving some of these guys one final look before most of them are cut.

I like that Suzuki is with Scherbak. And DLR is good when he plays with good players. Would have preferred Suzuki between Hudon and Lehkonen. But I like Peca between them, too.

Ugg...is it just me or does that look really bad? If it's going to be this bad, might as well put in Despres, Schlemko and Benn do a proper tank...
