Won't happen, Subban is better already. As for the trade one would think a prospect like Beaulieu would be interesting to the Penguins, they would also want a winger + picks coming back.#
Subban may be better in defense but if both plays all 48 games, Letang has the Norris.
But Letang is also two years older.

Now, if I have to choose between both right now, I would take Subban because he is more durable and will continue to improve.

If Letang wants to be here, and Bergevin can make this work, I say yes. Much more than Lecavalier. With one more rugged blue liner, this defensive corps would be world class.

You build champuonships starting with the back end. This lineup (minus markov and plus a rugged 6th defencemen) would probably be the best in the conference. Nobody would have two potential Norris trophy winners at the same time.

Teams that have the luxury of having 2 no. 1 dmen usually fare very well. I think the habs would be deadly with Subban and Letang. I think some people put too much weight on a bad playoff series (collectively bad BTW). Letang is an elite dman in this league, much more than an offensive specialist.

I want Pens to up the ante . I have been waiting for the horseshoes up Shero's ass to begin to cause him pain. It's a good thing for the Habs if pens spend themselves into oblivion. Can't wait to hear of a deal signed in Pitts. For Letang.

If somehow Letang wants to play here, than I'd welcome him. Subban/Letang on the PP would be amazing.

Plus, it would gives MB the opportunity to trade Markov and add some very interesting assets, starting with a big physical stay-at-home LD.

So Letang might not be what this team needs, but he can make this team better AND help get what this team needs by moving other players.

Still I'm not totally sold on the idea of locking 15M on 2 very similar RD for 7-8 years. I guess I'd be happy if it happens, but I don't mind if it doesn't.

So let me get this right..

There's a love affair over a declining, 33-year-old forward who people will pay $5M for.

But they won't pay $2.5M more for a 26-year-old #1 defenseman who also produces in the playoffs?

I can understand not wanting to give up the assets for Letang - but to not want him for $2.5M more than what some people are offering for Vinny blows my mind.

I think it has to do with the fact that most people identify Vinnie as a organizational need - a big centre that can score. Letang is a small puck-moving defenseman. We have a lot of those. Yes, he's better than everyone on our D EXCEPT Subban but at what cost? Prospect, draft picks, player or players, the contract..... Vinnie is free, so it's more than just the +$2,5m salary difference. It's everything else too.

6' 210 lbs is small?

It's not "big", but it's not small either.

This is exactly what happened. Teams/GMs do this all the time. Bergevin et al Helps Shero and Shero helps Bergevin by likely setting a smaller price tag for Subban.

Guess what Habs fans? no parades.......

Too many suckers around here buying into Eklund and other nameless sources....

Well guys lots of you are going to be happy, but I think having another elite PMD would solidify the identity of the Habs. The Habs have always won hockey game with talent and finesse players not toughness and grit, when Habs get into the game of toughness and emotions that is when they lose big hockey games (like in this year playoff). I take a look at LA defense which I consider to be a great model for the Habs defensive squad and they have two amazing PMD locked up in Doughty and Voynov. They complete their pairs with veteran stay at home defenders which cost alot less and can be brought from free agency. IMO the PMD and centers are the hardest assets for a team to acquire and having a great center line and the two best PMD would make Habs real cup contenders once Galchenyuk, Gallagher and Eller reach their full potential. Of course, Price is going to have to be better.

It's ****ing Pejorative Slured. I don't get it.. I've read SO MUCH StUPID **** the past couple of days. Trade Plekanec, trade the world for Letang and extend him to a monster deal leaving us crippled for years to come, REPLACE PLEKANEC WITH DAVID ****ING BOLLAND, REPLACE PRICE WITH JARO HALAK AND ZACH FUCALE, TRADE FOR DAVID PERRON WHO'S SOFTER THAN MARSHMALLOWS, AND DON'T FORGET TO GIVE LECAVALIER A BLANK CHECK ESTI ughhgghghhgg

I need to go to bed.

Just relax, bro.
