It's funny when he says the roster is crap and everyone gets mad at him. He was always right when he said it.
Ask him how it was possible for that crap to ascend to the top of the Northeast division last season, not to mention that it's at 5 and 3 so far this season despite the injuries. The man must have a bad liver by now and his liver is doing the talking.

I remember when he said the Habs had 4 4th lines. They won the conference.

I respect the player but he needs to shut up more often than not.

I find Lafleur hilarious, but there's a reason the club hasn't kept him around the way they have guys like Beliveau and Savard. Not all legendary players are experts about the game beyond their own ability.

I know thw man and he's far from being a drunk. He'd still probably would eat us alive on skates. Going backwards.

He smokes, but he ain't Pete Mahovlich.

The 4 4th line stuff was not intended to ridicule the players. You need to realize that Lafleur, like 90% of the alumni from that era, did NOT like Bob Gainey as a GM. I could probably add without being wrong here that most of the alumni didn't think too much of him as a friend. The innuendos and the comments made about the way he was running the show by many ex-players were a plenty.

Met Lafleur a few years back at the airport. It was under construction and he was sitting quietly by himself in a closed section. I motioned to him and he let me come over. We had a very brief chat but he was very nice.

I still remember one part of our conversation:

Me: "What do you think of Chris Higgins?"

Lafleur: (Enthusiastically) "He's a very good player."

Me: "Yeah, I think so too. Probably a 40 goal scorer."

Turns out we were both wrong. But he was a nice guy, uh... I mean Guy. And it was so cool to meet one of my idols.

BTW, met Andre Dawson once too... another great guy.

Now all I need to do is meet Lee Majors and my childhood dreams will be fulfilled.

Missed it. He was a great player in his time. When he boke in I think he only got 20 or 25 goals the first few years and all the talk was about whether he would really ever make it. Only time I ever saw him in person was in front of the Bell Centre when I was in town trying to scalp some tickets and he walked by. I couldn't think of anything intelligent to say so I just yelled "Viagra" and he turned around and gave me a smile.

I have such mixed feelings about him. I grew up when he was in his prime. I met him twice as a kid, both times he was the guest of honor at hockey tournaments I was playing in. I was so impressed.

Much later, I used to see him often at a local restaurant that we used to go to often (Jacques Demers too). My sister in law got all giddy when she first saw him, it was funny.

As for his thoughts on the Habs, he has more than earned the right to say what he thinks. I rarely agree with him, even think that he is out of touch sometimes...but...as I said, he earned the right, and has a deep understanding of what pro-hockey is about.

It is so odd that ex-pros often lose some of their passion for the game, and keeping up with the fine evolving details of pro hockey.... I guess, once it was your life and you move on...the details matter very little.

Serge savard is in no position to judge Lafleur.Remember the DUI conviction Savard pleaded guilty to.

Lafleur remains one of only three players to have six consecutive 50 goal 100+ point seasons. Yzerman barely missed out on this scoring only 45 goals one of those years.

The other two? Bossy and Gretzky. But Guy was the first to do it.
