Its a penalty, but he wasnt in a vulnerable position at all. Vulnerable would have been from behind
this is head on.
This is a matter of a 5'10 player running into a 6'5 220ib wall who didn't want him to get a pass.

Simple penalty, even from the bad angle, you dont even need the front angle to tell he hit him the chest/shoulders and not the head.

Not careless imo. Gudbranson expected dube to receive the pass but there was a Canuck forechecker blocking the direct path to dube. So the Calgary Dman banked it off the boards thus dube didn’t get the puck.

He read the play correctly in terms of what the flames D wanted to do but didn’t wait for the pass to connect before he went to hit him. Pass wouldn’t connect so he needed to lay-off the hit. Warranted the penalty.

That was a dirty hit but 2 minutes for interference was the appropriate punishment. Too bad the Flames couldn't make them pay on the PP and then Hamonic also got hurt fighting Gudbrandson. :/

The puck was right beside the hit. Shouldn't this be considered clean since they were in the area of play and the contact points were away from the back and not the head?

The puck hadn't arrived yet when Gudbrandson made contact. Miss-timed hit. Pretty straightforward two minute penalty.
