This thread should enjoy this 16 minute interview which is a good background on the whole Growler story and the lease agreement. Interview with Owner Dean MacDonald.

Nice blog - really great info fans of the team, and not overly long. I can't listen to an hour long blog like a lot of guys seem to do.

That said, if you aren't interested in the Growlers roster talk, skip right to the 5:25 mark. Discusses how the lack of a long term lease impacted sales and planning, a letter writing campaign that fans ran to put pressure on the city, some of the ideas they have now to market and improve sales now that they have a long lease. He also says he and the mayor were at an event in Aberdeen, Scotland and they were able to get together as two guys chatting, look at the big picture, and move forward. Prior to that they were too focused on the little details to make any progress. He states that having economic certainty gives them the ability to focus on hockey now. He said the lease isn't cheap by any means, but the numbers are manageable if they can reach their goals. Says that in mid summer he was sure that 2019-2020 was going to be the last year in St Johns, there was no way for them to go forward economically for more than two years with the losses they were sustaining. He said that was very emotional because the fan response at the end of the year, and his attachment to the city and the sport means a lot to him personally. Starting around 11:50 they go back to talking about the roster and expectations for on ice performance, promotions for the first few games, etc. If you aren't a Growlers fan there is only the middle 6 ½ minutes that talks about the lease.
