Pretty major for Iceland, exciting last moments!
Portugeezers deserved more
Luckily Portugal has a pretty mediocre group
Great for Iceland to have a start like this. I wouldn't say the result was that big of a surprise from my perspective, Iceland is a pretty good team. I would say a big surprise would have to be in the vein of Senegal beating France in 2002 or Trinidad snatching the draw against Sweden in 2006 when they made their debut in World Cup. So yeah, this isn't much of surprise for me after all. 'Grats Iceland and Icelanders of the forum!!
Portugal always underperform.
Random question. After that draw, who would England have in the second round if they qualified and the groups stayed as is.
Obviously would have liked to sneak one more in, but I am beyond happy with the draw. I think we flat out beat Austria, but I will admit that Hungary worries me a bit more than they did yesterday after watching them today.
If everything was the same? Portugal.
Not that surprised. Lagerbäck is the underdog king.
I'd like to see Portugal continue to play Ronaldo/Nano up front
Good game Iceland. They have a similar population to Leicester.
For some reason I thought we'd face the 3rd place team. Who would the leader, Wales, face?
I was trying to work out the third place permutations but it got confusing.
First you have to face them? Though I totally get the excitement
Comparing two teams, Iceland faced a tougher foe and played better than Austria did against Hungary. But Austrian coach will certainly make adjustments after watching how Iceland fared against Portugal tonight.
If you mean groups stayed *exactly* as they are right now then England would be either the 2 or 3 seed. It would come down to fair play rankings and I haven't the slightest clue what those are.
As a 2 seed in group B they'd play the 2 seed in group F, which is currently Portugal (or Iceland, again it's fair play rankings so who knows).
As a 3 seed they would get either Group A, C or D winners which are currently France, Germany and Spain respectively.
Ronaldo would've probably played better on the wing or deeper in midfield so he could use his speed and make plays. Using him as almost a target striker reduces his influence in a game like this.
Ronaldo was really trying to force it in the 2nd half.
do you see it now? because I do..Iceland Euro 2016 Champs! : )
Wanted to be Scotland manager and was turned down. Twice.
Like I have posted before, I am just super happy we got Portugal the first game. The draw is fine with me, now we can focus on two lesser countries (no disrespect intended to either)
I just would never want to go into the third match needing a win vs the Portuguese. I am much happier that our next two games are Austria//Hungary, though, like I said, the Hungarians kinda scare me almost more than the Portuguese did today after watching them. Full respect to Austria, but I feel that, of the three teams, they are our best chance for an outright win.
Really don't get why someone doesn't tell Ronaldo to let others have a try from freekicks or just cross it into the box occasionally, it's not like he is scoring from them regularly anymore.
Since McNobodyinparticularStick is probably busy, I'll save him the trouble of posting this, though I'm sure he'll be very happy to read it:
"It was a little bit frustrating, we tried hard to win the game, Iceland didn't try anything. They scored a goal, they created two chances in the ninety minutes and otherwise they got every player behind the ball, they put the bus in the net so it's difficult when one team don't try but Portugal try and play football and try to win the game."
"It's a bit frustrating for us but it's just the beginning for us, we're not worried about that. If you see Spain, France, they are the strongest teams in the tournament and had a difficult time to win their games so for us it was tough but we are confident. We're 100 per cent confident we'll win our next game."
"The rankings don't mean anything. We just try our best, keep the ball all the time and Iceland didn't try anything, they were just 'defend, defend, defend' and playing on the counter attack. It was a lucky night for them. We should have three point but we are OK."
"I thought they'd won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end, it was unbelievable."
"When they don't try to play and just defend, defend, defend this in my opinion shows a small mentality and are not going to do anything in the competition."
So is he saying that Iceland created less chances than he squandered?
How's that then? Unless they were screwed by the refs then they got exactly what they deserved.
We were playing full of swag for the first 50 minutes and then they scored on one of their typical long balls and due to vieirinha losing his man in comical fashion
Then we played putrid and put our heads down and collapsed
Absolute **** last 40 minutes, just terrible.
Should have been 2/3-0 at half and we end up drawing.
FFS stop this ball**** crossing to ronaldo and nani, build up for more shots around and inside the 18..ronaldo could have easily taken it inside the 18 and forced shots from outside inside like the chance right before Iceland scored.
No-one has the balls to and he is too selfish at times.
Didn't like Ronaldo's comments after as well.
Ronaldo is not a captain, his attitude after the equalizer effected the entire team as well.
Hey if they're being booked at 5000:1 odds, I might throw a few buck in.
