Portugal's traditional music genre fado is renowned for its melancholy. Meanwhile, Portugese football tunes must sound the same for quite some time. First, the Golden Generation headed by Figo came somewhat short, even being defeated at home by the unlikely winner Greece in 2004. Since then, C. Ronaldo dominates the football scene but could not lead his country to greener pastures either. Portugal is a football hotspot, has huge talent and is always in the mix, but at least I stopped believing that they will win it all (which is what certainly everyone said about Spain in June 2008). However, this roster seems to me more like the next episode of "CR7 & his bland supporting cast" than the beginning of a new Golden Generation - but this even field of teams might be Portugal's best chance since 2004.

Similar to Bosnia in 2014, I am very glad that Iceland finally made it after coming close in the previous years. They prevailed in a tough qualification group, so I am exciting to see what they have to offer!

    Gruß,
    BSHH

Think this is a lot closer than people think, but with Austria losing, I don't think Portugal will come out lazy and probably know that a win here means perfect results for them after round 1.

Their U21 coach said in an interview, that they should try to keep Portugal from scoring for a long time, and then go for the counterpunch when Portugals becomes more desperate.

Not sure if this will be their actual game plan, but it wouldn't surprise me.

How fantastic would it be if Iceland won? Almost as fantastic as them giving Ronaldo the blood eagle at midfeild!

Iceland has nothing. Just way too much class on the Portuguese side.

Wonder if we see Rafa Silva next half for Ronaldo.

Nice one, Iceland is a scrappy little team, you can't let them get going.
