Sadly not. There are way too many Slovaks who would hate this idea.

Edit: Hey, it was not that stupid a question!

OT From an ignorant American:

Is there any chance or interest of your two countries reuniting?

Simply - No

Relationships between our two countries are great at the moment. Much better than it was 20 years ago, when we were one country. Czechs are great people and I'm proud, we divided peacefully. However there are some areas, our countries cooperate a lot. E.g. In autumn governments of CZ and SK will have common meeting, where they will solve problems of our small countries...

The only way we ever get united again is the European Union....and in current European situation that is very unlikely and most of it´s citizens would really really prefer for that never to happen....

There´s no point in CZE and Slovakia reuniting and it would probably bring more evil than good....

Rexor, in fact I think there are many Czechs too, that wouldn't like this idea ;)

Sure but you can't deny that the dissolution was entirely a Slovak idea.

Personally, I believe there was no point in the dissolution in the first place. I've never really understood the reasons for this but I agree that now, there's no way back.

Thanks for the answers guys. My parents were slovakian (I am 52); my dad a partisan during WW2, and sadly he is no longer around for a while for me (born in the USA)to ask this question. Of course he is where I got my love for Hockey from.

I will make it with my children there one day, Dad born in Martin, mom in Vranov (sp)....

Actually, while people might not have wished for the disolution, however I believe that both countries needed a different way of development and disolution was the right choice for both in the end and it spared us all a lot of trouble that could have ensued other wise.

Klaus and Mečiar deciding the disolution is by no means a wholy Slovak idea btw;)

I'm afraid that the dissolution led to the rise of provincialism in the Czech Republic. The country feels too small now as Czechs are somewhat enclosed within themselves. As for Slovakia, you had to spend a few years under Mečiar. Hungarians would never dare to bully a nation of 15 million. Both countries lost the assets of a bigger market.

It was a Slovak idea from the beginning and Klaus eventually accepted it. I don't think he had another choice.

Yeah, well I´m not saying that the situation was or is ideal, but the fact is that the economic direction that Prague was taking post 1989 was hurting Slovakia big time and was one of the reasons (among many others) for the rise of nationalism and the wish for soveriegnity in Slovakia.....

Actually that is not absolutely true- Mečiar and co. were asking for some kind of lose federation or some similar crap, while the options that the Klaus offered at that time were: a) an even tighter federation or b) disolution........ I personally don´t consider the other option better than disolution....
