Finland really got the Hannu Hanhi group this time. Fine, USA has quality, but the rest? Nope. Canada left a walkover with college players from upper Ontario and Germany and Kazakstan battle for the 3rd and 4th place. Not exactly exciting stuff.

Not that it excuses Sweden playing the worst hockey since 1937, but still, the bragging winning the group shouldn't be that high. The B group is rather shit.

Remember that statement of yours, chimpradamus?

Extremely hard to win twice vs the same top team.

Group B swept Group A - Winland has already won once against USA, CAN, GER

I was obviously wrong and from the look of the games I couldn't really see how Finland, Germany and a Canadian college team could look respectable compared to the teams Sweden faced. Apparently, Sweden was even more utter shit in performance than I could even consider. Again, we should be very happy there were no relegation rounds this year. An EPIC low.

One group going 4-0 is an anomaly, but it's not like I would contest the other group was stronger considering the results. Still, that was a very unexpected result. Like, how couldn't Russia pass, as a starter? Holy hell.

To summarize this tournament, I think the general quality has been utter shit. But the old men in ties from IIHF need their dough.

SWE hockey teams usually have a ridiculous mentality vs russia, they almost always bend over and consider them overlords.

- FIN and CAN hockey teams never surrender vs russia even if they have a no-name team vs russian all-stars...

- SWE lost to RUS 0-5
- FIN won vs RUS 4-0

- just please overcome this never winning an important game vs RUS and hope that FIN will eliminate them :)

1987 Ice Hockey World Championships - Wikipedia

The Germans had beaten both Canada and Finland when it was revealed that forward Miroslav Sikora had played for the Polish junior team in 1977. He was suspended and the IIHF stripped West Germany of their two wins. The Germans took the matter to court, stating that they had been granted permission. Though Sikora remained suspended, the IIHF reinstated the two victories.[1] If the courts had not intervened, Finland would have replaced Sweden in the medal round.[2] Additionally, the Swedes earned the Gold over the Soviets by goal differential when the Soviets had gone undefeated and the Swedes had lost three preliminary round games. This led to further discussion of a change of format. The IIHF's account of the finale states that, "Sweden won thanks to an inflated score against Canada,"[3] however Sweden only needed to win by two (the same margin that the Czechoslovaks beat Canada by) for the Gold. In reality the Soviets had to come from behind to capture Silver and deprive the Czechoslovaks of the Gold, and the Swedes winning by more than two ensured that the Czechoslovaks could not play to a tie and capture Gold.

Eye of Ra, you have incredible knowledge regarding practically every country's players/prospects. Respect!

But "finland had no balls until 1995" is just stupid, Northern Estonia (nowadays also called WINLAND) was pretty good even before that, e g

sweden have been better than finland at ice hockey from 1950 to 2018. thats a fact. finland winning a game here and there does not change that.
