I am sure the league will be lining up to help the Sharks out of their cap trouble.

So you're sure every NHL team is going to collude to not trade with the Sharks? What you just said is exactly what everyone said for years about the Blackhawks, but miraculously they got under the cap every year. If Boedker or Braun are on the market, someone is going to be willing to trade for them. They aren't going to refuse to trade with the Sharks in an effort to stick it to them for signing Tavares. And if you think that will happen, you're an idiot.

Bottom line is, if the cap is $80M next year, the Sharks don't have do do anything to be able to sign Tavares. They can sign him and then worry about how to sign Hertl, Tierney and Thornton later. Or not.
