So is the poll question which team had the best roster over the years listed?

Or which individual team was the best championship squad?

If it is best individual team, I think it is hard to bet against last year's Lightning.
best roster of the years listed..... say the "average" of the 2 championship rosters since theyre obviously not exactly the same 23 man rosters (cores are obviously similar).

Hm. Weird question and wording then.

Penguins in 2015-16 adding in Guentzel with HBK rolling seems scary.

But, 2012 LA adding in that '70s line and insane level Gaborik is probably the best combo listed tbh.

I guess I couldve listed each team/year individually, but its a little redundant given the cores are the same.

It was also inevitable the Habs would lose when they were down 3-1 to the Leafs...
It's pro sports man, weirder things have happened.
not really.... down 3-0 in the SCF to a team thats clearly MUCH better than the Leafs. If the Habs of all teams manage to win it all, it would go down as one of the biggest miracles in sports history.

Even yesterday, they pulled off the unlikely win. Tampa were the better team. (and yes MTL were the better team in game 2, but that was about it)

Those moments have, and will happen again. Wouldn't that be great witnessing history?
Highly improbable it happens but not impossible. That's why they play the games and why we watch.

Pens and caps coincided with each other. If pens didn't win in 16 and 17 the caps would have. And if pit gets by caps in 18, imo they threepeat.

Both the Kings and Hawks won cups before and after they faced off against each. The Caps were not a cup winning team when they beat the Pens. The Caps won once. They had one run, not multiple. They don’t belong in this discussion.

Pens

Two back-to-back Cups after playing full 82 game seasons. None of this shortened season/playing your own division only bullshit...

Every team gets the shortened season and played within their division, how is it any more of an advantage to Tampa over anyone else?

Sure but they were the presidents trophy winners in 2016 and 2017 with 120 and 121 points. Pens and caps were the two best teams in the league during that period. Pens had to beat a juggernaut both years during their back to back cup wins.

Did I say Tampa had an advantage...no.

I just meant that Pittsburgh winning 2 Cups back to back after playing two regular 82 game seasons is way more commendable than what we have now IMO.

You’re making the argument that because the Caps had a good regular season, they belong in the same category as the Kings and Hawks in terms of strength of opponent. Every season has a Presidents Trophy winner. It’s completely meaningless. The Caps won that trophy in 2010 as well and certainly weren’t close to the best team. It was just as likely that they were one year wonders in 2018. They were perennial losers up until that point. It was between them and the Sharks when it came to choking every year. What we know is what they accomplished. And that’s one cup. They didn’t even make the finals another time like the Bruins did. Kings and Hawks were proven to not be one year wonders. They were the definition of juggernauts. Not the Caps pre-2018.

When you phrase the question in the past tense (who WAS the greatest winner), you can understand why people would be confused, as Tampa currently has one Cup in the last ten years.
Maybe if theyre trying to be difficult

Everyone understands Tampa is winning the Cup

Maybe they understand it takes four wins in the Finals to win a Stanley Cup, not the three that Tampa currently has.

That 2010 Hawks team was ridiculous. They also had the most impressive run overall with 3 in 6 years IMO.

3 in 6 years > 2 in 2 years imo.

Although Tampa could very well become part of the conversation if they win 2 and then 3
