I have to agree that Gretkzy is the greatest passer of all time... I mean... he had years where his assists alone would have taken home the Art Ross. Despite that though these adjusted lists aren't truth, they're opinion, even if they are based on a system.

Primeau is #31 and Harvey is #63

Harvey #63?! he was a great passer
And Primeau's playmaking skills were awesome, led the league in assists 3 times, Charlie Conacher and Busher Jackson really benefited from being on his line.

63 is a great placing, when you consider there have been about 10,000 players in NHL history.

As well, this is based on production not aesthetics.

Phil Housley was another great playmaking blue-liner, it's just his legacy is tarnished by his shoddy defensive play. Housley makes Paul Coffey look like Rod Langwy.

Hardly. Outside of Orr Coffey is the best offensive defensman ever. Bar none.

Can someone bring a list of the 10 best players in points/game and assist/game to me? (Minimum, 500 games played) both in regular season and the playoffs.

Thx.

Yeah, no debating in Gretzky being number 1 here. Just think about this: He didn't have to score one single goal in his entire career and he would still be the league's leading scorer only with his assists alone :amazed:
As for the second coming after Gretzky in the passing department, it's Lemieux for me. Can't comment on players from pre-80s though.

Any reasonable method of comparison says that Gretzky is the greatest.

Gretzky led the NHL outright in assists 13 times and he tied for the lead on 3 other occasions. 5 of Gretzky's assist titles were by more than 25%, 2 were by more than 50% and one was by more than 75%. Nobody in any era can boast such dominance of the assist leaderboard. There really is no comparison. Throw out the raw numbers, these percentages cannot be touched by anyone in any era.

These stats are amazing. I can't think of another athlete in any of the major sports that has this kind of statistical dominance.

I assume he meant that Housley was so bad defensively that Coffey's defensive play looked like Rod Langway by comparison

Oates at number 2 beacuae he had two season with over 90 assists?

LEMIUEX! Clearly number 2 after Gretzky

A few random single season assist totals: 114, 98, 93, 92, 91, 87...and he never once played a full season!

Not to mention that numerous people had 50-goal seasons on his line.
(Kevion Stevens, Rick Tocchet(48), Rob Brown(49), Jaromir Jagr)

I would also argue for Paul Coffey before Oates...

On the NYI broadcast the other night, Mike Bossy suggested Bryan Trottier.

Of course he is biased.

But he also know that of which he speaks, having been the beneficiary for a decade of #19's superior passing skills.

Certainly, Trottier belongs on any list.

I think you misinterpreted my comment. I have argued several times that Coffey is the second best offensive defenceman of all-time. I was saying that Housley was so bad defensively that he made Coffey look like Rod Langway. I would never use Rod Langway as a put-down for someone's offensive ability, I have too much respect for Langway.

The only one is Babe Ruth and his homerun totals. Nobody else comes close.

I think Oates is a good choice.

He might not be number two, but one of my favorite playmakers was Dale Hawerchuk. He was terrific. I think people would talk about him more if the Jets had more success in the playoffs. Plus, he played at the same time as Gretzky, which ended up being a double whammy. He was compared to the GOAT and the Oilers beat the Jets almost every year in the playoffs.
