Matthew Ford did not play tonight. Dan Renouf did play, but was a game time decision (both illness?). Patrick McCarron (D) [Lashoff Wings callup] & Matej Machovsky (G) [Coreau illness?] were both called up from Toledo (ECHL) prior to tonight's game. Nelson decided to try the 5 forwards PP unit for the first time this season and it resulted in the Bertuzzi PP goal. Will see if Nelson will continue to use this PP unit in upcoming games. Former Griffins/Wings forward Landon Ferraro got the GWG tonight for Iowa.

Tomorrow night the Griffins will finish their 5 game road trip with a visit in Rockford, IL to battle the IceHogs.

Griffins lose in shootout to the IceHogs in Rockford to end 5 game road trip:

Griffins overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first period with 2 goals in the second. Tangradi got an unassisted goal at 1:52 to tie the game up at 1-1. Turgeon scored on a nice backhand at 4:28 from Tangradi & Renouf to give the Griffins their only lead at 2-1. Rockford tied the game up at 8:23 to even the score at 2-2. Griffins had to kill off 4 straight penalties in the 3rd period to keep the game tied at 2-2 and force OT. Vinnie Hinostraza scored the first and only goal in the shootout to give the IceHogs the victory 3-2 (SO). Lashoff did play in this game as McCammon was sent back down to Toledo (ECHL) after the game in Iowa. He did not play on Friday. Ford (flu) did not play tonight. McCollum was in net again for the Griffins as he stopped 36 of 38 shots. Coreau is current injured (not disclosed) the last 2 games. Griffins back home (finally) on Friday against the Manitoba Moose.

Thanks for the game reports.

Surprised to see that "tie goes the veteran" is the mantra, even in GR.

Hronek didn't get in until they managed to trade Sproul, and Saarijarvi has basically sat out 1/5 of the season beacuse they have too many vets. How they weren't at least rotating them in by default is a mystery to me.. and the fact that they now rushed Lashoff back from Detroit to sit Vili again??! I don't understand that at all.

Is a radical idea for an AHL affiliate to sit a veteran once in a while? I get that Nelson and GR want to win, but come on...

He was out there. Skated a little better tonight then in previous games. First game from long road trip and first game since last Saturday. Throw in the game after Thanksgiving day, and players did not show up on the ice until the 2nd period and the Moose had a 2-0 at that time. Griffins had 5 on 3 for 1:37, but Lorito was hit from behind by Moose player (only got 2 minutes for boarding) to make it 5 on 3 and Lorito was out for the rest of the game (lower back from the hit from behind) and he is our number one play maker on the PP. Griffins had 5 forwards, but with Lorito not one of them, they looked lost. Elson got a nice centering pass from a Moose d-man and beat Hutchinson high glove for the only goal (teddy bear goal) of the game. Hutchinson looked great the last 2 periods and he was the star of the game and deservedly so.

Griffins do not play until Wed when the Texas Stars come to GR for 2 straight games. Griffins were forced to send 3 players earlier in the week due to Toledo Walleye schedule (3 games in 4 nights) and with the Griffins only playing tonight, we only had Shine as an extra tonight.

Griffins played much better last night than they did on Wednesday night against Texas. Even strength play much better, but special teams killed them Friday night. Had the game won, but Texas scored with 5.7 left to tie the game up. Griffins has not scored a shoot out goal in 9 attempts (3 games) so far this season. Good to see Lorito back in the lineup last night as he was missed the 2 previous game on the PP. Svech took 2 more penalties (1 costing us a pp goal) again. He is getting more frustrated lately in his play. Hronek is getting sloppy lately, especially on the defensive side of his game. At times not sure which to cover in his own zone. Holmstrom was the extra forward and did not play on Friday. Tonight they are in Chicago. Coreau is expected to be in net for the Griffins.

Puempel is an interesting one. Decent size and speed. Good shot. Former first round pick going almost PPG over last 2 AHL seasons. Has shown nothing at NHL level, but based on size, physicality and point scoring, should be a 3rd line NHL option. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a look if Nyquist or similar gets traded...

That was just a brutal game to watch. The ice hogs were skating circles around us all night (minus part of the 3rd). Not a lot of speed in the system. Also idk what's up with Svech but he is invisible out there almost every single night. You'd really like your first round forward to be able to create some opportunities but maybe without the depth of last year's team it's coming out that he's more of a complimentary guy.
