@GrGriffins, unlike the Griffins blueline, it looks like there could be a lot of turnover at forward. Looks like Smith, Ehn and apparently Pope will be on the team next season, while Tangradi, Street, Elson and Lorito are UFA's, Puempel is eligible for Group VI UFA status and maybe Nastasiuk doesn't get qualified. Of those six guys who are or could become free agents, any indicators so far on if any of them are locks to return or move on?
Tangradi, Street, Ford (GR contract & the C), Puempel, and Lorito (I think) in post-season interviews all expressed they would like to return (said the right things) but didn't know what the future would hold. We only have Holmstrom & Turgeon for centers under contract. My guess is that Street, Ford, & Tangredi are re-signed and go outside for center help but nothing in the news for sure. As for the D, if DRW sign Sambrook and 1 of Cholo. Hronek, or Hicketts makes the big club, someone might be traded. The GRG usually go into the season with 8 D, so a player might be traded if Renouf is re-upped.

Anyone who has information about Ben Street looking to get over to Europe to play? GM for Linköpings Hockey Club (Sweden) are looking for 2 players and rumour says that Street is one of them.

I don't have info on the subject, but it wouldn't surprise me if he does go to Europe. He's 31YO, coming off a one-way deal that paid him $650k to play in the AHL. I doubt he gets a ton of NHL offers this summer, and they're all likely to be two-way deals that will pay 1/3 - 1/2 of what he got this past season if spends the entire year in the AHL. I'm assuming he'd make a bit more in Europe.

Who's going to be first line center then? Turgeon? There's a chance he makes it to the NHL. If Turgeon makes the big club the Griffins are screwed.

Played a year at Michigan.

I'd imagine they sign a #1 center for Grand Rapids. Don't know who, but they will find a way to give the offense a cornerstone.

The Red Wings will probably sign another Street like fringe vet for a year, or maybe snag a <27YO guy that either didn't get qualified or walked as a Group VI UFA.

They could also wait till after the pre-season waiver action calms down and trade one of their extra older AHL dmen (Lashoff/McIlrath/Russo) for another teams depth C. Like how they got Puempel for Sproul.

Usually guys from the draft can't go straight into the AHL.

Sorta. That only applies to guys drafted out of the CHL. They either have to play for their NHL team or junior team if under the age of 20. Technically a player drafted out of College or Europe could go straight into the AHL, but obviously that doesn't happen very often. IIRC, there were only 3 guys from the 2017 draft that went straight to the AHL: Liljegren, Chytil and Kostin.

Good moves. Defence should be set. Some depth will come, but this should be the Starting Top6 on most nights:

LD Sulak -- RD Hronek
LD Cholowski - RD McIlrath
LD Lashoff - RD Saarijärvi

4 prospects (if Sulak count one) and 2 experienced and physical guys compliemting their partners well. Brian Lashoff team Captain.

3 great skaters (Sulak, Cholowski, Saarijärvi) so there's good puck carrier in every pair.

On PP:
Sulak - Hronek
Cholowski - Saarijärvi

On PK:
Lashoff - McIlrath
Cholowski - Hronek

The 5-foot-9, 176-pound forward had 19 points (3-16019), a plus-six rating and four PIM in 15 regular season games with the Roadrunners.
He tied for the team lead in Calder Cup Playoff scoring with eight points (1-7-8) in nine appearances, which included a team-best seven assists.

Leaguewide, Camper tied for 11th in point production and tied for fifth in assists during the regular season.
An eight-year pro, Camper has traveled around. He has 330 points (87-243-330) and 114 PIM in 443 AHL games with Providence (2010-14), Springfield (2013-14), Binghamton (2014-15), Hershey (2015-16), Albany (2016-17), Cleveland (2017-18) and Tucson (2017-18).
Camper also has 45 points (18-27-45), a plus-nine rating and 10 PIM in 51 career Calder Cup Playoff games. He was Hershey's leading scorer with 17 points (6-11--17) in 21 games during the Bears' run to the 2016 Calder Cup Finals.

Camper made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins during the 2011-12 season with one goal in three games.

A native of Rocky River, Ohio, Camper played four seasons (2007-11) at Miami University before turning pro.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Monday re-signed forwards Turner Elson and Dominik Shine to one-year contracts.

The 25-year-old Elson tallied 21 points (9-12—21), a plus-12 rating and 49 penalty minutes in 57 games during his first season as a Griffin in 2017-18. His plus-12 rating marked a career high and tied for third on the team. Making his Calder Cup Playoff debut, Elson scored a pair of goals in five games.

Since debuting with the Abbotsford Heat at the end of the 2011-12 season, Elson has appeared in 232 career AHL contests between Abbotsford (2011-14), Adirondack (2014-15), Stockton (2015-16), San Antonio (2016-17) and Grand Rapids and compiled 87 points (43-44—87) and 193 PIM. Skating in his first full professional season in 2017-18, Shine, 25, accounted for 16 points (8-8—16), a plus-four rating and 54 PIM in 58 games with the Griffins. He also played in five postseason contests while making his Calder Cup Playoff debut.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound winger made his pro debut with the Griffins at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, recording three assists and seven PIM in eight appearances.

Prior to turning pro, Shine competed four seasons (2013-17) at Northern Michigan University (WCHA), where he posted 97 points (48-49—97) and 185 PIM in 131 games and served as a two-time alternate captain.

During his senior year in 2016-17, Shine paced the conference with 20 goals in 33 contests en route to his second-straight 30-point season and was named to the All-WCHA Third Team.

A native of Pinckney, Mich., Shine played four seasons for the USHL’s Lincoln Stars from 2009-13 and served as captain during his final two years.
