Homer seems to be picking up his game as the playoff push is in full force.

Homer is taking advantage of Lorito's injury (will be out until the 2nd round of the playoffs) and he is starting to produce on a consistent basis. Griffins need secondary scoring in order to clinch a playoff berth and to make some noise in the playoffs.

Sprong is going to be a good one for Pittsburgh. Stunned he's still playing in the AHL after seeing him what seems like years ago in the NHL.

Wait Sami Niku was picked in the 7th round. Man WPG really had a good 2015 draft, 3 players have already scored their first NHL goal and then you have a guy like Appleton who look to have a solid shot at becoming a NHL'er aswell. They could end up having 3-4 solid NHL players come out of that draft and one of them is Kyle Connor, that's how you turn your organization around.

Niku played very well against Montreal, offensive defensemen are where it’s at

Griffins gets split in Tucson, plus Chicago beats Milwaukee, so Chicago, Manitoba, and the Griffins all clinch playoff spots tonight. Rockford lost in Austin to the Texas Stars 4-3 to keep Milwaukee barely alive for the final Central Division playoff spot.

Griffins is a point behind Chicago and even with the Manitoba Moose, but both teams have a game in hand on the Griffins. Griffins are 2 points ahead of the Rockford Icehogs in the 3rd spot in the Central Division.

Griffins completed their AZ road trip, but next week they will do the Texas two step on the road to complete their road trip and their road schedule for the regular season with a Wed game in Austin vs the Texas Stars and on Thur in San Antonio vs the Rampage before coming back home on Sat night for the regular season final game vs the Cleveland Monsters.

Jared Coreau cleared waivers and he is on his way to Grand Rapids to meet up with the team in Texas. Tyler Bertuzzi will not be sent to Grand Rapids as the Wings want Bert to go on a special off-season training regiment to get him in better shape for the upcoming 18-19 Wings season.

Combination of Svech coming back from Detroit trying to kick start his game and improve before the playoffs and with Luke Esposito playing and producing the past 2 weeks, put Shine on the outside looking in at the moment.
Nastasiuk has surpassed him in the pecking order?

Nastasiuk has surpassed him in the pecking order?

Difference there could be that Nastasiuk is under a Wings contract (and expiring one) and Shine is under an AHL only contract. Shine is more of a 3rd or 4th line type player and Nelson is looking for someone to add some scoring with Lorito now officially out for the playoffs.

Jared Coreau will start in goal for the Griffins tonight in Austin vs the Texas Stars. Shine back in the lineup and Nastasiuk will be the extra forward scratched.

Trevor Yates is playing in his first pro game tonight.

DOMINIC TURGEON OUT INDEFINITELY
d4113b1f0fa4c4975f329299fe94212d.300.jpg
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.
– The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday announced that center Dominic Turgeon will be out of the lineup indefinitely while undergoing treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome, which caused a blood clot affecting his right arm that was diagnosed yesterday prior to the team’s road game against the Texas Stars.

Dr. Ryan Turley performed a procedure to alleviate the clot Wednesday evening at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. Turgeon is scheduled for another procedure today before a consultation next week in Tampa, Fla., with Dr. Karl Illig, who successfully treated Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos for a similar condition two years ago.

It is expected that Turgeon will resume his playing career after making a full recovery. Further updates on his condition and prognosis will be provided as warranted.

After winning a Calder Cup championship with the Griffins last year as a rookie, the 22-year-old Turgeon more than doubled his goal total and nearly doubled his point total this season, posting 14 goals and 32 points in 69 games. The son of longtime NHLer Pierre Turgeon, he made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings on Jan. 14 and appeared in five games with the parent club.
