Hronek is ripping it up. He was +5 today. 2 assists. He leads the team in +/- and it's not very close: +19 and #2 is +12. The 2nd highest defenseman is +2.

15th in D scoring now. 9 points in his last 10 games, and 13 in his last 15.
Good to see. Cholowski looked better at preseason but Hronek seems to be figuring it out quickly at the pro level. Hopefully both see plenty of NHL time next season.

Griffins called up 2 d-men Patrick McCarron and Kevin Tansey from Toledo (ECHL).

He's had to replace a lot of players on the roster.

That and he had to deal with adversity like Svech & Bertuzzi out the first month of the season, plus when they got back healthy, their top 4 forwards missed time due to injuries, which brought up several players from Toledo. Did not help that some of the players were still in Calder Cup Champs mode and not focused on hockey.

Team is playing much better. The Central Division this season is much improved from last season from top to bottom. Cleveland is the only exception, but Milwaukee has dropped a bit lately and when the tdl comes in the NHL, will see what AHL teams will have an impact as well.

Two spots though seems odd to me was the reason I said that.

Joe Hicketts will be out this week and next week due to his leg injury. Dan Renouf was also injured (undisclosed) Sunday in Cleveland and he will not play tonight and is questionable for Friday night's game. The 2 d-men they called up from Toledo, one of them will play tonight (not sure who yet) and the other might play on Friday if needed.

Griffins host Manitoba Moose tonight (who lost in SO in Milwaukee last night), San Antonio on Friday, and Stockton on Saturday.

Hronek again. The Wings should call him up when they move Green in a few weeks here.

He is scoring points, but he is still having a difficult time playing defense as forwards are going around him like he is not even there. That is his major weakness in his game. Coreau bailed him out on 3 different occasions in tonight's game alone.

Nobody on defense right now. Hronek and Russo offensive d-men, but they both are not even close playing well in their own zone. Renouf has regressed from last season. McIlrath improved offensively here this season and is physical, but has a hard time moving the puck out of his own zone and he is slow in reacting to it. Lashoff is your AHL vet and he has no speed to keep up to the NHL pace. Hicketts is a physical hitter and is very aggressive, but he is currently out for 2 weeks with a leg injury. Saarijarvi is doing well with the playing time he gets here as he plays good defense in his own end. Slowly starting to come around on the offensive side of his game, but too many ahead of him is preventing him from doing better.

Coreau has nothing to prove here after this season. He could be a decent NHL backup goalie for someone, but not ready to be an NHL No 1. McCollum is a decent AHL goaltender but that is about it.

Forwards, Bertuzzi was the one ready for the next step in the NHL as he had nothing to prove in the AHL after his playoff MVP performance last season. Svechnikov regressed big time here this season. Although he was hurt at the beginning of the season, he just could not get it going here this season. Lorito is a great PP playmaker here and he can skate, but bigger players can take him off the puck with no problems at all. Puempel is our leading scorer at the moment and he could get a brief call up to Detroit to see where he stands in the organization. Great shot and has NHL experience. Tangradi would be a great net front presence on the PP and can score points in bunches, but he is not that great of a skater and when he gets hot, he ends up getting hurt at the wrong time. Street has become more of a playmaker here in GR this season as he leads our team in assists. Campbell is more of a checking forward and can score from time to time. Excellent PK player with Turgeon when paired together. Turgeon has picked up on the offensive end of his game and his play might make the Wings keep him around. Holmstrom is doing well on the 2nd PP unit, but that is about it as he goes unnoticed on 5 on 5 play.
